LPGA player Annika Sorenstam will be teeing off shortly in a men's PGA event at the Colonial Country Club [the first time in 60 years this has happened]
Live shot for shot coverage as long as she is in contention to make the cut on USA Networks, PGA Radio is free today for those cubicle bound and wanting live update (link included)
After two rounds, the field will be cut to the low 70 professionals and ties.
Currently, Sorenstam is in a group that is is below the cut. I believe she is tied for 72nd now that everyone has finished the first round. Since only the top 70 and ties stay in, she would miss the cut if it were made today. Of course, it isn't made today, it is made after tomorrow's round. Since only players who shot par or better are in the top 70 finishers today, the "projected cut" is even par. Sorenstam is one shot worse than that, being one over par.
The most important number for Sorenstam tomorrow is not par, or how many strokes she hits, or anything like that. It is the position she is in relative to the field. Anything worse than "Tied for 70th" and she will miss the cut. Odds are pretty good, though, that she will have to shoot par or better in order to be in the top 70 (plus ties) finishers.
Hope this helps.
I'm awfully glad she wasn't as deadly serious about this thing as most of you guys are.
Once the course starts to dry out, Colonial will show her teeth. Annika had trouble with the speed of Soaked, soft greens today -- tomorrow they will dry out and she will be seeing green speeds the likes of nothing she has ever played. Add to that the fact that she cannot spin shots the way the PGA players can and she will be faced with numerous shots running through the greens, and will also have a ton of long long putts.
She may hit every fairway - her accuracy is unquestioned - but she will be hitting wood or long iron into rock hard greens that she does not have the tools or skills to handle.
I fully expect to see another 30+ putt round, and expect to see her shoot 74-76 tomorrow.
Hey, if you had some of the, ahem, shortcomings some of these guys obviously have, you'd be bothered by her too.
As for me, you're right, her attitude today won me over. I really enjoy seeing people do what they love and have FUN with it.
I have a love-hate relationship watching Tiger Woods. It's fun to watch him play because he is so good at what he does, but it drives me crazy that he always is so damn serious that he looks like he's passing a kidney stone on every shot.
I'd love to see Annika's hubby kick his a$$.
Tomorrow afternoon may be rough indeed for her
Now you're just talking Clinton.
Ack! Skewered with the pun! ;-)
You're telling it. ;-)
**snicker**
Your friend is a class act and a real sportsman.
Know any other Div. 1 conferences where the same player won three years in a row? Didn't think so.
Face it, you are obsessed with the notion that women CAN compete with men.
Or else you wouldn't be here.
Yes.
Woods never plays here, because the course is gimmicky and not designed for tournament play. The hardest holes are all on the fron nine. Know any others like that?
If you knew anything about golf, I would not have to explain this to you. As it is, I am once again faced with trying to explain things to someone who is ignorant, but has no wish to change.
No. Because nobody said he was cute. I was responding to somebody spouting the PC line. All of a sudden this fugly chick is "hot" because it makes her somehow more sympathetic.
Sort of like six or seven years ago when there was a run of fashion stories about how Chelsea had "matured" into a hip and sexy young woman. Sorry, but if you took a look at some pictures of her, you'd see that she is a great woman golfer, but she is not attractive.
