The Extreme Left Roars Back: Dean Declares War on the DLC

May 15, 2003

Al From, founder and CEO of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) and Bruce Reed, President of the DLC, yesterday circulated a memo to "Leading Democrats" titled "The Real Soul of the Democratic Party" in which they argue that traditional Democratic values are "an aberration" and that the thousands of grassroots Democrats inspired by Governor Dean's message to "take back our party" are "activist elites" and not "real Democrats."

I disagree. Activism is the lifeblood of our party and our nation.

And, Governor Dean's political conscience and his caring, common-sense issue agenda qualify him as the best candidate to run against George W. Bush despite grumblings by a few DLC members.

Please help Governor Dean by affirming your support for his campaign today.

Use this link: (deanforamerica.com/DLC) to send a message to the DLC that a few members of the DLC do not represent the views of the entire Democratic Party. You can call the DLC at 202-546-0007.

And if you can, please consider making a special contribution to Dean for America today to show Howard Dean has the support of America's grassroots activists. www.deanforamerica.com/showthedlc

Apparently, Jeffords, Leahy, and somebody else sent a letter to the DLC basically accusing them of being Republican-lite.

Dean should run on the Green party.

My grammar got garbled as it often does.

I meant to say Goldwater's candidacy allowed the Democrats to sweep congress and run amok in 1965.

Goldwater alone wasn't to blame. The JFK sympathy vote probably would have done it anyways.

Governor Dean's political conscience and his caring, common-sense issue agenda

Hard to believe that anyone could write this with a straight face! There is absolutely nothing common-sense about Dean!

I think Dean may (oddly) be the one non-gun-grabbing Dem candidate

I believe we should keep and enforce the federal gun laws we have - including the assault weapons ban and the Brady Bill

From Dean's site.

Similar to our program in Vermont, states should be required to guarantee coverage for all children under age 23. In return, the federal government should assume responsibility for drug and acute medical care for Americans over age 65. In addition, older Americans deserve a pharmacy benefit under Medicare - an unaffordable impossibility under the current fiscal policies of President Bush.

To help finance this effort, we must repeal the President's tax cuts. . . .

Socialized medicine and tax increases--common-sense not.

As Webb Hubbell's father-in-law Seth Ward said, "There's horsepower and horsesh!t."

Dean is the latter.

Memo to Dean: There is a word for people "under 23" but over 18 or 21, and it is not "children".

Perhaps English is his second language. His first being Orwellian Newspeak.

That is an understatement! Hard to believe this guy can say what he does and keep a straight face!

traditional Democratic values

Like:

killing the unborn, taking firearms from law-abiding citizens, punishing the innocent, freeing the guilty, blaming America for everything, trashing morals and values at every opportunity, playing the race card promoting the gay agenda, raising taxes, spending willy-nilly, stealing votes through fraud and accomodating union thugs.

Those Democratic values?!

There's also the Democratic value of silencing religious expression (unless, of course, your religion is Islam or Wicca!)

Don't forget the plutocrats: Dashle with his new million dollar home and Feinstein with her 2 SUV's all determined to exploit the little guy to get ahead. I guess they think that they have imported enough foreign doctors now to take over that part of the economy and maximize exploitation of the sick.
