NEWSROOM MEETING AT 2:30 PM WEDNESDAY, MAY 14 ///

Howell, Gerald and Arthur request that you join your newsroom colleagues at an open forum at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, to discuss the Jayson Blair matter and anything else you might have on your mind. Torch the place. The "meeting" is little more than a "save my butt" campaign for Howell, Gerald and Arthur.

At the NY Times, it's not lying that's wrong; it's getting caught.

OK let's post some first questions to Howell Raines...

Q: Where does the buck stop at the NY Times?

Howell's gonna get the boot! At least, that's what I hope. He's insane.

What will be really interesting is if they pick up some actual malicious wrongdoing on Raines' part (right now it just looks like he's a bumbling fool who was easily manipulated by Blair because of his authoritarian, elitist personality)

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have some good news. Here at the Times we pride ourselves on our high standards of objectivity and journalistic integrity. Accordingly, the editors have decided not to renew our contracts with Reuters, AP, and Al Jazeera, and instead compose our news and editorial pages from feeds from Free Republic."

I can just picture Howell's address opening the meeting:

"We didn't know...(until after he had done it 4685 times and somebody else finally turned him in)"

"We wanted to give him every possible chance....(because we are such bigots we didn't think we could find any other minority who knew how to write)"

"We adhere to only the highest journalistic standards...(unless it involves political attacks on Republicans or Conservatives, in which case we just do what we have to)"

"All our other columnists only write the truth..." (that is, they have not gotten caught yet)"

"We are very sad to see him go....which is why we have been smearing him like nobody's business in order to take the heat off our own editorial incompetence for letting it happen at all)."

I've always said that when the Times mentions "un-named sources" in its articles, that it really could be no one at all, and rather just the journalist including his or her own fabricated stories/information. This could explain why Rumsfeld is always so pissed off when un-named sources leak information, when in fact, it could be no one at all.
