A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Butchart Gardens, Victoria, BC

The Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia, are rated as one of the most beautiful garden displays in the world....50 acres of beautiful flowers, trees, and the most lush landscape. You can stroll through a Sunken Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, the majestic Ross Fountain and the English Rose Garden. Each garden is linked by spacious lawns, streams and Lily ponds.

Since Spring is in full bloom, and Summer is almost here, we thought it might be fun to let those who enjoy their gardens - whether flower or vegetable - do a little bragging. We can't all look out our window and see a beautiful view like the two photos above, but then, unless we had a huge full-time garden staff, we wouldn't have time to visit the Finest. :)

I don't claim to have a green thumb nor spend a lot of time digging in the ground, but this is where I enjoy early morning coffee, listening to the birds sing, and watching the goldfish. It's peaceful and quiet and relaxing. Low maintenance - ground cover and concrete and brick - that's the lazy man's garden. :)

Your turn! Let's see some of FR's Finest Gardens.

Thanks, Mixer!

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

I've been reading your posts and all the plants, etc you've been talking about. I must say again, what a wonderful view you have - the deck is fabulous. Always love seeing something 'different' than what we're used to.

Need to leave for a few hours, but will return tonight...

Billie your quiet spot next to the goldfish pond is beautiful. We have goldfish and I know they need much more water than most people are aware of. We lost half of ours in the tank in a matter of days. Now I know better. :( Great garden Billie!

We 'have' a lot of trees, but we had to plant them.

But that's the fun and joy of having a yard. It's *is* a lot of work, and it's heartbreaking when things don't take as well as they should, but I always though of it as my "therapy." No matter how hard I worked in the yard or how much I perspired, I always had a sense of peace when I was done for the day.

I miss daisy, too! :-(

dutchess, have you met DrDeb yet? She was raised in your neck of the woods, I think, and she is a FABULOUS freeper!

We had lunch last week and had a BLAST! (especially discussing W's 'flightsuit' controversy!)

I recommend inviting her to any gathering we have!

btw, I make a mean potato salad!

(I have classes on M-TR for the next five weeks, so Friday's my only option until the middle of June).

I will definitely keep up posted on anything we hear about Eric, Billie.

The only thing we know now is that as of the end of April, he was describing some of his experiences as 'AWESOME' and from his letters to his sisters, sounds just like the dear brother they know and love!

(Our youngest now calls him 'Super Eric!')

Well it looks like we have the steak and the potato salad. :) All we need is the dessert and another side dish! I love potato salad. Yummy.

LOL, I of course did *not* notice that overt violation of our nation's copyright laws. I confess I'm just getting to every detail of this thread today, back from a pretty hectic day at work here. So far it's just delightful -- everything I'd want in a thread. (1) pretty pictures; (2) pretty text; and (3) pretty good drubbing of The Thin Man.

And yes, I recovered my toolbar although I'm used to it on the bottom and it's off to the right....It's driving me nuts.

Would you believe it, I lost my address bar last week and the top bar and icons came back on their own but the bottom is still off to the right! lol!

The view is sure nice, but the leaves!!! My gosh I've never raked and blown so many leaves in my life since I've been in this place.

That's so sweet of Daisy - I remember another of her at almost that very spot, don't I? :) At that little gazebo?

Oh yes :)...had to tie her up for that picture. Think the wisteria showed up better in that pic though.
