A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Butchart Gardens, Victoria, BC

The Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia, are rated as one of the most beautiful garden displays in the world....50 acres of beautiful flowers, trees, and the most lush landscape. You can stroll through a Sunken Garden, Japanese Garden, Italian Garden, the majestic Ross Fountain and the English Rose Garden. Each garden is linked by spacious lawns, streams and Lily ponds.

Since Spring is in full bloom, and Summer is almost here, we thought it might be fun to let those who enjoy their gardens - whether flower or vegetable - do a little bragging. We can't all look out our window and see a beautiful view like the two photos above, but then, unless we had a huge full-time garden staff, we wouldn't have time to visit the Finest. :)

I don't claim to have a green thumb nor spend a lot of time digging in the ground, but this is where I enjoy early morning coffee, listening to the birds sing, and watching the goldfish. It's peaceful and quiet and relaxing. Low maintenance - ground cover and concrete and brick - that's the lazy man's garden. :)

Your turn! Let's see some of FR's Finest Gardens.

2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

nicknack - why are you giving away my birthday cake from last week?!!

A retread cake? I'm so disappointed. Billie's cakes might not be the best but at least they are original. :-)

Fruit tree in bloom in Fresno.

I know these are very small, but I've lost my file transfer program so I am unable to post anything unless it is already uploaded. The gremlin may have been on my system again.

I will try to forget the hurt you caused my head last night from being "nyuk-nyuked." :)

As I will try to forget the grave injury YOU caused to my neck last night!!!

Thanks for asking Lady X. My oldest son turns 21 TODAY! He's in the Navy stationed at Annapolis, MD.
My second son is in Army boot camp in Kentucky and loving it! Really! He thinks the obstacle course is a blast.
The other two are fine and in the last month of school for this school year.

I enjoy reading your stories and anecdotes, even though I don't often have time to post, I do try to read everything I find in "new posts to you" every day.

It is truly wonderful. The storms have been terrible (although I still love a good thunderstorm). The weather has changed so quickly the last few days. My heater actually kicked on yesterday morning. Hopefully the sun will dry things out a little. Pickaway county is a soggy mess.

Good morning sistahs and FRiends!

Lady Shallott, I am sorry I was not able to be here yesterday to join the Finest Welcoming Committee in saying how nice it is to have you with us. Hope to see you here often! :-)

Billie, I love this theme today!! Gardening is one of my all time favorite things and is the reason that I have not been around much lately. We are having some beautiful weather here and I just cannot stand being inside on these warm sunshiny days. Your morning coffee garden looks so inviting! (Bet it would be a nice place to sip Margaritas too.) ;-)

I have been fortunate to have been able to visit Butchart Gardens during the summer a couple times, .........it is just breathtaking. I could have spent days there and still not seen it all.

Our ground roses are at their peak right now, so Saturday I had JK take a couple of shots of my flowers out front.......Since this is "Garden Day", I will post them. :-)

The lavender flowers are Lantana (they attracts butterflies all summer). Behind the Lantana are deep maroon Dianthus - can't see them well, but they line the walk in the picture below. There is a yellow climbing rose next to the garage. The little orange flowers on the left are Gazanias. The trees are "Watermelon Red" Crepe Myrtles, but they won't bloom until next month.

Another shot of the front........

Since we are allowed to brag about out gardens today, I have some lovely Roses and Day Lilies in the back garden. Later today I will see if I can locate and post a few more pictures. :-)

Hi Billie .......
That is a coyote. We have several living very close. We hear them quite often but they don't often come as close as this one came. I think they come pretty close during the night.

A rather sad tree it is, Thin Man, like you, needing us to fatten it up.

Didn't like it, Lady? I thought it was beautiful. :)

Morning, Meekie. Almost summertime and hot chocolate doesn't sound so appealing. :)

Does anyone have a Koi pond in their garden? I would so love to build one. I am not sure however how easy they are to maintain? I think watching Koi is so relaxing. And its a beautiful addition to a yard.
