MIAMI -- The furor over the FCAT is intensifying this morning.

Community leaders say that the statewide academic skills assessment test is unfair to blacks and Hispanics. They also say they will boycott the state's tourism, sugar, and the citrus industries if things don't change.

"We will not continue to support this government economically that will not support our children," said boycott organizer Bishop Victor Curry (pictured).

Curry says Gov. Jeb Bush has 10 days to rescind the latest FCAT scores or the boycott will begin.

Laughable: they want the Governor to give the kids who FAILED a passing grade. No wonder public education is in the toilet.

I say let them boycott. Parents and children will have to learn together. Maybe they'll learn how to work a voting machine yet. Electronic or otherwise.

Community leaders say that the statewide academic skills assessment test is unfair to blacks and Hispanics.

Why do the community leaders think the same test given to everyone which is easily passed by English speaking white kids can't be passed by blacks and hispanics? I have heard bilingual teachers here explain that a hispanic child can't understand concepts like "staircase" because they come from small homes that don't have any. Not only can't they learn English, they can't learn the concepts that Americans know.

If they decide to hand these failing kids a diploma, the diploma should be in Eubonics or Spanish to signify to employers that the kid is illiterate.

"I am upset with the governor of the state of Florida because he knew from the beginning who was going to pass and who wasn't going to pass."

That's one helluva magic act. And people of Floriduh wonder why their kids are struggling with these intellectual midgets championing their cause?

Oh no the quotas are not fair, more blacks then whites failed proportionately.
Gotta be biasd.
How about your kids weren't pushed to excell at schooling. How about they were ignored and let run the streets instead of making something of themselves and now it's my fault.
Idiots.

Ever notice how the "community" and its "leaders" are almost always black? I saw this on the local news last night, and almost all the "educators" participating in the threat are black also. This has nothing to do with education and everything to do with RAT-incited Bush-hating, and protecting the jobs of lazy incompetent teachers of ALL colors...

I'd say the "Bishop" can move his flock further south where tests are not in English. But, as long as he and his flock are on US soil, they will take the tests in English. Maybe than they will be able to vote without yelling fraud.

Typical lib-Rat ploy. When the facts show that you're a failure, demand that the government cancel the facts. What a pathetic joke. These racial "leaders" are demonstrating that they intend to lead their children into stupidity.

This would be a very good start. We should all withdraw financial support from a system that leaves so many behind. Privatize.

The irony is, these people most likely won't be supportng the government economically, anyways. It will be the government supporting them.

Blacks and Hispanics do poorly on tests, and their "leaders" blames whites.

Any surprise here?

Some FCAT changes have already happened. Late last week, the Board of Education lowered the standards of the test for this year's senior class.

I must expand on your thought. One thing that is not mentioned is the idea of school choice. Instead we must 'accept them for what they are,' -ignorant. It is the same thing as fat people who don't want to control their eating habits [and instead expect people to treat them as if they still have a neck and a waist].

- Yet they feel 'entitled' to a diploma. All that would do/has done is cheapen the value of the diploma. It is not a majic document that gets you a job. It implies that you have achieved a certain level of education.

And how many staircases were in the sod-homes in Ireland, yet it didn't take an Irish rocket scientist to figure out what a "staircase" was.
