Don't bash filibustering too hard - it's really helped us in the past.
Just bash the Democrats for using it against someone like Estrada. :)
To: BigMacGOP
That would be too bad.
But the important thing is that we go nuclear and change the filibuster rules for all futute presidential nominations. Maybe that can more easily be done if it is done without any particular nominee being the issue. (Estrada's not the issue -- maybe he is not so great anyway.)

In regards to Estrada: 24/7/365!

As much as I hate to see this, we knew the obstruction would "pay", the Dems aren't going to move on this, without any negative media attention to their antics.
Plan B may be to portray him as a martyr, and for that to happen, this has to be some grand finale. His withdrawal, with a speech that gets some coverage (on Fox and Univision at least) telling it like it is, may be the best endgame.
To: BigMacGOP
Not now. Such a big mistake for so many reasons.

Too bad if it's true. But at least he still has a job with a K Street law firm (Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher). The same firm as SG Olson.

Perhaps Bush will put up Bork's name to replace Estrada's.

I'm glad Estrada said he wants out of this nightmare. I hope someone talks him out of withdrawing his name.

If this report is true, you can bet that the whole scenario is being orchestrated among Estrada, our President and his political advisors. You can also be sure there's a Plan B swinging into operation.
I don't blame Estrada one bit. Two years in the mustard-gas-filled trenches is enough for anyone. Watch GW make lemonade out of this lemon of a situation.
I'm sure he has an even MORE conservative Latino lined up.
However, it appears likely that the only nominee the DemoRATS will vote for will be an Arab-American union trial lawyer from Detroit with Al Queda connections and a same-sex spouse.

Let's take a cue from Fineswine and rewrite the rules so that they sunset in 10 years if not renewed.

I'm having a hard time believing this .... especially after the way the President went to bat for Estrada and all of his judicial nominees this morning in a strong speech from the Rose Garden.

That's a GREAT suggestion! My worry about changing the rules was having them backfire on us in 25 years when the Dems finally regain control of the Senate.
