Hey Jeff!
I'm finally getting back up to speed - how about a two-week long computer crash and recovery?! ACK!
I am STILL grinning, thinking about that landing and speech. And the fact that it makes the Dims crazy ... even better! Wonderful site! (I'm ready for Vol. 4! :-) )
Best...

What was that sound? Sounds like teeth grinding together. That wouldn't be another blathering response coming from the "loyal" opposition, would it?
Jealousy is what I'm thinking.

What a proud family you all must be. A big thank you to your son... and from what I gather there were only a very few of the
assholes aboard.
Thank you for your wonderful postings on your experiences with the homecoming. All smiles here!!!

He probably means 5 Kt when Bush was giving his speech. It would be hard to give one with 30-40 mph of wind across the deck. I dont think the aircraft landed with that speed. Did it ?
BTW how did Bush leave the ship? If he did a cat shot. That would be a first too.

A huge "Thank You" to your son for serving our nation and his part in our resounding victory in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
And an equally huge "Thank You" to you for instilling the virtues that led him to fulfill his patriotic responsibility. His altruistic decision to serve in our nations military is an attribute of good parenting, and is to be admired as an aspiration for generations to follow.
To: ATCNavyRetiree
An especially huge thank you for those who stuck it out during the Clinton era. I ducked out knowing court-martial was inevitable. Those who continued and continue to serve deserve the highest praise imaginable after those eight years. I'm in awe of their self-control when it became apparent their C.i.C. was beholden to an enemy government.

From another news article:
The White House has admitted that the president didn't need to fly aboard via an S-3B Viking because the carrier ended up within helicopter range. However, the Lincoln originally was expected to be hundreds of miles from San Diego when the trip was planned, Navy officials said.
Lincoln officials said the only alteration to the carrier's travel between Hawaii and San Diego was its increased speed. The warship traveled at 30 knots -- instead of a normal 15 -- to make it near the California coast in time for the president's visit.
However, the ship didn't delay its return to San Diego, as some Democrats have suggested. Lincoln officials said the ship's San Diego return date of May 2 was set and released to family members a week before the president's visit was confirmed.
"We couldn't have pulled into San Diego any earlier than we were scheduled because of the pier support and the families," Lincoln spokesman Lt. John Daniels said. "The families were buying plane tickets and making travel arrangements to meet the ship. Coming in a day earlier would've screwed things up."

presume you were in this crowd! That we were!. First time I had ever greeted a returning ship
I remember my husband and I making a trip to L.A. airport with welcome home balloons to greet my Army cousin and his wife and kids when they returned from a two year stint in Germany. He didn't ask us to come. We found out what flight they were going to be on and just showed up.
It was the least I could do to show appreciation for their sacrifices for the country.
And let me add my gratitude to you and him for this young man's service and my gratitude to God that he and his shipmates all came home whole and well and with honor.

Right on. On this subject (and several others), every Demo hissy fit is another bullet into their own foot and we're giving them the ammo to do it. As far as I'm concerned, they should keep it right up. :)

Your comments and kind words are all appreciated by my wife, myself and my son.
We have tried to raise both our sons with solid basis of family, religion, love and respect for others. We are proud of both our son's (the second is a freshman at U of Az.
We believe we raised two great kids, but then most all parents feel that. But to see and hear it from others does do our hearts good.
I also must confess, that it was not our goal for him to go into the Military, mainly for our own selfish reasons, But his heart was set on it from the age of about 15. We are 100% behind him and we are indeed very proud of him. Again Thanks to all of you!!

Embarass him again and give him another hug for us.
He is lucky to have parents like you and your wife. You are lucky to have too good sons. Also, hard work enables the luck to happen.

Tell your son that he has my daughters and my gratitude. :o) I understand as a parent how military would not be your first wish...but it proves you raised him right...he is the least unselfish amongst us.
And jla...thanks for the ping. Very nice story.

Nice pics.
This cannot be faked. I have my disagreements with Dubya, but as CIC, he is Da Man!
And his troops know it.
