Hmmmm...neither one of those websites links has anything about identifying nodular melanomas. I have what my doctor calls "skin tags" on my chest area that have slowly been turning into raised pearlescent colored moles over the last year or so...she keeps telling me they are ok when I have my annual physical, but I am really not comfortable with her diagnosis. Will see if I can find further info in a search, will post anything I find.

As someone who has been fighting skin cancer for the last 30 years, I can tell you melanoma is not to be taken lightly! ANY change in your skin should be examined by a dermatologist pronto.

My Dr. has me on a three month recall and he still occasionally has trouble staying ahead of the skin cancers.

Oh, and...

Stay out the tanning booths!!

As kids we used to peel the dead skin off each other's backs to see who could get the biggest piece. The only protection most folks used back then was a white zinc cream on noses which looked real cool (not).

Also heard that sunscreen needs to be fresh to work at full strength (less than a yr. old if it's been opened).

I went where the article said here and the pimple like small skin cancer mostly spoken about in the article is not pictured.

Thanks for posting. Having worked outside my entire life and now living in El Paso (Sun City), I've been to the dermitologist more than once to have "spots" removed.

Thankfully, only once was the term, "pre-cancerous melanoma" used.

Regards

Bttt and here is a link for the most common form of skin cancer (and cancer) known:

About Basal Cell Carcinoma (with pictures for comparison)

Melanoma is dangerous and deadly. Basal Cell can be as well, if left unchecked.

After my cancer doctor did some slice-em and dice-em on my face and ear, and since I am very fair and burn easily, I've taken my doctor's advice and use Blue Lizard, an Australian sunscreen.

http://www.bluelizard.net/BlueLizard/home.html

Great stuff, and though advertised as SPF 30+ doctor tells me that it's about SPF 100, but can't be advertised that way. Like the way it protects, but doesn't make your skin a greasy mess the forces you to sweat profusely.

Effective when chartering a yacht for a winter week in the Virgin Islands, but I did visit a tanning salon for a couple of visits before the trip to get a base coat of UV exposure.

Blue Lizard is hard to find, but their web-site has a retail locator. About $15 a bottle.

Most Australians grow up as beach babies, and 20 years ago it was rare for anyone to be using sunblock.Milky white or tan,it makes little difference to who gets skin cancer when you spend half your life on the beach.
