(CNSNews.com) - Two Democratic Members of Congress have criticized President George W. Bush for using the USS Abraham Lincoln as a platform to announce that the United States and its allies have prevailed over Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. On the Senate floor Tuesday, Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) questioned "the motives of a desk-bound president who assumes the garb of a warrior for the purposes of a speech."~~ He was referring to the fact that Bush wore a flight suit as he arrived on the ship. "As I watched the president's fighter jet swoop down onto the deck of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, I could not help but contrast the reported simple dignity of President Lincoln at Gettysburg with the flamboyant showmanship of President Bush aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln," Byrd stated. "American blood has been shed on foreign soil in defense of the president's policies," said Byrd, who had opposed sending military forces into Iraq. "This is not some made-for-TV backdrop for a campaign commercial." Also on Tuesday, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) sent a letter to the General Accounting Office -- the investigative arm of Congress -- asking for "a full accounting of the costs associated with the president's trip" since the event "had clear political overtones."

When President Clinton spoke at Normandy in 1994 on the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings, he was criticized by many veterans groups, who pointed out that Mr. Clinton had avoided military service in Vietnam.
In a TV interview at the time, Mr. Clinton defended his opposition to the Vietnam war but said, "I think that military service is an honorable thing, and it's something that, in that sense, I wish I had experienced."

I was soooo proud of Brian Kilmeade this morning on Fox n Friends when he described one of the President's critics as "Ex-KKK member Robert Byrd" - so nice to see the news media call a spade a spade!

Clinton in Nigeria on visit aimed at bolstering democracy

After the trip to Cairo and his return to Washington, Clinton then leaves on Wednesday for a day trip to Cartagena, Colombia.
His busy travel schedule has led to some complaints from members of Congress. According to the General Accounting Office, the U.S. government watchdog agency,
Clinton's trips abroad during the past three years have cost about $250 billion.
Berger dismissed criticism of Clinton's trips.
"I think the United States has benefited enormously from the president's travel over the past seven years," he said.

"In a TV interview at the time, Mr. Clinton defended his opposition to the Vietnam war but said, "I think that military service is an honorable thing, and it's something that, in that sense, I wish I had experienced." Beel Klunkton (and his dog spot) will stoop at any LOW to make themselves look good (just like a true Democrap).
You may find this hard to believe, but when Clunkton was running for Prez in 1991, there was a picture floating of him as governor in Arkansas of him wearing an Army flight cap (thin, foldable cap) doing an inspection of Army Guard troops at Ft. Chaffe, AR.
It was an 8x10 closeup and showed the cap off-angle and barely hanging on his head due to his mass of hair almost pushing it off his bean. It was taken during a standup troop inspection (and made clinton look absolutely like BOZO the clown in a goof suit).
Here is what you may find hard to believe: the photo was actually tracked down and confiscated by the Arkansas State Police at the direct order of governor Beel Klunkton.
The reason I know is because I personally spoke with the (ret) Army Lt. Col. who had it hanging on his wall (as an amusement piece) when they came and got it (or should I say "STOLE IT.")
It seems one of Beel's faithful had seen it hanging in his office and alerted the Klunkton early warning system of it's possible negative PR had it been chosen to be used as such.

It is worth noting that if it were, say, a Rep. Barr castigating Clinton for a similar photo-op, the media would ask Barr's colleagues if they support his comments. When/if enough Republicans distanced themselves from Barr's comments, the media and pundits would dismiss them as irrelevent.
Now, let's see if the so-called Republican media tool, Fox News, questions the Democrat presidential contenders to see if they support Senator Sheets rant against Bush's carrier speech.
Better yet, let's see if MSNBC beats them to it?

I agree. The speech was the right one, at the right time, at the right place, by the right person. I Totally agree
The Dems on the Hill are just in a panic because even the liberals on TV loved what Bush did and said so too

Ok, with a stall speed of about 130 KIAS, let's say the ship was making 30 knots. Let's put a good breeze of 25 K over the bow. Now we have an approach speed of 75 knots over the stern.
By the time the P-3 hit the BARRIER, it'd be going about 60 knots.
Ouch.
Maybe if we popped a drag chute once the LSO called 'chop' ...
