There are reports tonight that the Canadian government is sending a light brigade group to Afghanistan unarmed due to some technicality of Canadian law.
I'm going to run the rest of this down and post on it ASAP.

THE FORCE LUKE, USE THE FORCE!
We should be arming these men ourselves. If the Canadian government won't meet coalition responsibilities, then as a leader among nations we have the responsibility to do so.

Light Brigade? Does that mean they are armed with laser swords?

Maybe they completely outlawed guns in Canada.

They could develop the tactics used by the Palistinians, the "Throw Rocks" Brigade or even the elite "Stupid enough to blow self up" squadron.

Can't resist. Would that include a light-in-loafers contingent to insure inclusiveness or are they falling back on the Molson Strategy?

I guess they'll just whine and bitch in a French accent, until their enemies run away.
It'd work for me.

when light is outlawed, only Brigades..
No, wait
When Canadians are banned, only light will have...
No, hang on
When brigades have lights only Afghanistans will..
Crap, there is no real point here, is there?

Actually, it's a light battalion at best.
Still looking for more info.

We should be arming these men ourselves. That's it. Arm them to teeth -- then send them home to free their own country from the communists.

Actually, I caught the tail end of a news report and found a usenet mention of it. But no actual story as of yet.

at least they werent french body guards.. but then, if something happened, the french would make excellent decoys as they are running away, and the canadians could just pick the guns back up

Don't laugh too hard at Canada.
Californiastan pulled a similar stunt a few months back.
But a lot of military types, particularly guys in special-operations units, like to supplement some of the standard-issue weaponry with privately purchased handguns and gun-related equipment of their own choosing. Often the handguns and equipment they can buy in the private market are better and more advanced than the standard-issue stuff. But getting those handguns can be a big problem in California, which has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Although law enforcement personnel are exempted from many of the restrictions on purchasing firearms, military personnel stationed in California are not - even if they're on their way to a combat zone.

They will be spilling maple syrup on the ground, hoping that the enemies get hindered by it.

Did the Canadian government at least send food along with the chaps this time? Criminy. No army on earth deserves the Canadian government.
