Across the nation, schools are suffering. Tens of thousands of education employees have received pink slips and looming state budget deficits promise more to come.

Yet Congress seems oblivious to the unfunded mandates it is imposing on our schools, to crowded classrooms, to course offerings cut, to schools in need of repair and renovation, to parents facing increased fees, and more.

The proposed tax cuts jeopardize not only critical federally-funded education programs, but also state revenue.

Advocacy groups across the country are educating Congress this week on how the proposed tax cuts affect real people in every state. On Thursday, May 8, the message is education.

Action Alert! On Thursday, May 8 send Congress a message: Do the right thing. Don't put tax breaks before the real needs of our states and our schools!

Ok, this is really bothering. I have an email today from MoveOn.org It is almost WORD for WORD what you have posted above from the NEA Teacher Union. When we were freeping the anti war folks, some of the freepers had posted research here about Eli Pariser, the founder of MoveOn.org. How close is the NEA with these antigov groups?

Lets be intellectually honest here. The NEA knows darn well this won't even affect the rate of GROWTH in spending, let alone cuts, and they should very well know that reducing taxes on "the rich" has boosted the economy every time its tried. They're supposedly learned educators after all.

You should see them having hissy fits all over the campus here. They seem to think that their jobs and paychecks are a right. Some come across as demi-gods not public servants if you ask them why they should be immune from the laws of economics.

None of them would last a minute in the real world.

We have a new football stadiums and theater ...yet the vocational programs autoshop metal work constuction electrical cabinet making have all been cut to the bone...some just cut

Not only that, unions are trying to put words in my mouth. I want a tax cut and bigger is better. Where I live the state budget is hurting. How are the educrats reacting? They are cutting positions all right...janitors, teachers, paras etc. Is there one administrators position cut? No way. Can' have that.

In my school district the poor teachers scrape by with only $20,000 per student, per year. I don't know how they manage to get that glowing 67% (2 points above a failing school system) passing rate on the standardized tests.

If only they had a funding level of $30,000 per student per year, I'm sure they would be able to maintian that success level for another year. And if they had $40,000 per student per year, I'm sure they could get the passing levels up to a mammoth 70%.

They are shameless parasites who will happily sacrifice the future of our children for their own benefit.

These teachers and unions get me sick. I'm one of those parents facing increased fees (every year for the last 24 years, nothing changes). They get the increased fees, they get the passed bond issue money, they get increased funding from the state and federal level. AND NOTHING gets accomplished. We got Lotto, that was supposed to help the KIDS get educational items but it ended up in teachers salaries and perks.

Over the years we complained about broken bathrooms, doors, fixtures and other skipped maintenance but nothing got done despite their getting more money. We complained about mandated non-essential PC classes while they skimped on reading, writing, and geography.

It is not Congress that is oblivious, it is the local school administrations and the liberal teachers and unions that are oblivious to the needs of children!

I had my little run ins with the NEA in high school. The teachers went on strike for some reason. Rather than pat them on the back, I called them "extorters of the taxpayer's money." They hated me...

I've suspected that, but there's no way to prove it. What we need it an audit of Federal Education money.

Something concise, something readable, but something detailed. I'm sick and tired of hearing "books not bombs" and "we're in overcrowded classrooms" when the $ spent on Education are not only going up, they're going WAY up, every stupid year.

A clue as to why American manufacturing has gone overseas. Companies cannot find the skilled crafts to "make things that are worth buying", at any wage, competitive or otherwise.

The teachers unions do not want those people that were trained in skilled crafts going back to school and having a second career as teachers, because the truth of the matter is, these people would see through the bogus theories of the Marxist "intellectuals" that are running the teachers unions.

The 501 (3) (c) provision of the federal tax code needs to be repealed. It is one of the biggest "Loopholes" for perversion, subversion, and just plain extortion, ever conceived by Congress. 501/C/3 is the source of many of our nations problems and the hiding place of commie cockroaches.

A NYC teacher called the Curtis and Kuby Show on WABC this morning and complained that he had eight textbooks for 150 students. NYC spends about $10,000 per kid per year. How come kids don't have textbooks for each one of their classes? Where exactly does that money go?

No more money until every single last penny can be accounted for even if it takes years to do it. Forget about raising taxes for public schools.
