Contrary to earlier expectations, Saturdays debate amongst the nine 2004 Democratic Presidential candidates at the University of South Carolina will not be televised live.
Catherine Levine spokeswoman for ABC News in New York said that the earliest the rest of America (outside of the conference hall) can see the debate is at 11:35 PM Saturday when it will be made available, unedited, to all ABC affiliates accross the country.
The 9PM EST start time is considered prime network time, Levine said, while everything after 11:30PM, is considered affiliate option. It will run for 90 minutes.
Local Charleston ABC affiliate WCIV Channel 4 will air the debate Saturday after the late local newscast.
Levine said the delay in showing the debate will not take away from its impact. More the 40 markets have confirmed they will show it in its entirety, including several in the early primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire, and in the larger markets of Chicago and Los Angeles.

ABC just doesn't want the terrible ratings that a Dim debate would bring messing up the May Sweeps rating period..

ABC has the rights with George Snuffolufogous as host, so C-SPAN won't show it unless the network gives up the feed.

What are they afraid of, someone might say something stupid? In a Dem. debate, the person who says the most stupid things wins!

Looks like they put Sharpton in the back of the bus -- I mean, the back of the photograph.

The DNC white man keeping Rev. Al down again! That's because of that ridiculous, inredulous, racist Terry McAwful.

Wish it was live. It's got to be hilarious with each one trying to out-liberal the other.

At first I thought it was the SNL cast from the early 80's when the show was really bad before they got Eddie Murphy
