The story mentions that he was an Army Seargent, yet the photo is of a Marine.
Nonetheless, Semper Fi and Godspeed.

WE beseech Thee, O Lord, according to Thy loving-kindness, have mercy upon the soul of Thy servant Troy, and now that he is set free from the defilements of this mortal flesh, restore him to his heritage of everlasting salvation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thanks for catching that. I researched further and it seems he had prior service as a Marine.

U.S. Army Sgt. Troy Jenkins, 25, a native of Repton, Ala., is seen in this undated family photo taken during his prior service as a U.S. Marine. Jenkins was serving with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division in Iraq (news - web sites) when he was wounded Saturday, April 19, 2003, when a cluster bomb exploded as he tried to save an Iraqi child and members of his unit. Jenkins, who lost his left leg and fingers on his right hand when the bomb exploded, joined the U.S. Marine Corps at 17 and four years later joined the U.S. Army and trained to be a paratrooper. But Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Richard Myers said the latest information he saw Monday indicated that the child handed the soldiers "an improvised" explosive device and that her intent was to "do harm to the four soldiers. (She) wasn't trying to return a piece of ordnance." Why does the press insist on calling it a cluster bomb when it clearly was not?

To fallen soldiers let us sing
Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
To the Mansions of the Lord
No more bleeding, no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night
Just divine embrace, eternal light
In the Mansions of the Lord
Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard though the angels sleep
Through the ages safely keep
The Mansions of the Lord

Near the snow, near the sun, in the highest fields
See how these names are feted by the waving grass
and by streamers of white cloud
The names of those who in their lives fought for life
Who wore at their hearts the fire's center
Born of the sun they travelled a short while towards the sun
And left the vivid air signed with their honor.

Very sad bump for another brave and heroic soldier. May God comfort his wife and little children....and provide for them all now that their husband and daddy no longer can. This just breaks my heart.

"Jenkins suffered the most injuries as he tried to protect the child and other soldiers. He lost his left leg and fingers on his right hand when the bomb exploded.
He was taken to Kuwait for treatment and remained in "seriously critical condition." He died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany."
