KARBALA, Iraq (CNN) -- Exuberant Shiite Muslim pilgrims are surging into the central Iraqi city of Karbala, reviving a religious tradition that was not allowed under Saddam Hussein's rule.
Religious leaders said the crowd could reach several million by the peak of the observance Wednesday. The pilgrims came from all over Iraq -- some walking more than 60 miles.

I agree with your statement. Did we actually research the culture in Iraq/Arabs before we went in to liberate them? They seem extremely ungrateful for the "gift." If our government only spoke to the exiles here in the U.S. they probably got the wrong picture--the Westernized Iraqis are civil, intelligent and used to freedom. The Iraqis who have been in Iraq seem rather medieval and still longing for the oppression.

Many protesters expressed gratitude for their newfound political activism but also called for the United States to leave Iraq. The political fervor of the crowd intensified Tuesday -- earlier chants of "No to America, No to Israel, No to the Devil" gave way to "Death to America. Death to Israel."
You know, there were tens of thousands of anti-war protestors in NYC a few weeks back - they were chanting 'Impeach Bush' and 'No Blood For Oil'.
I guess that means that the vast majority of US citizens are revolutionary Trotskyites, that 90% of Americans are deathly opposed to the Bush administration and that no one supported the war.
Time to stop pussy-footing with these people.

I find you guilty of believing something posted from CNN and sentence you to reread the article and locate where CNN tells us HOW MANY of these "pilgrims" were exercizing their newfound freedom to protest in the streets.

No we aren't! It's the BEST thing we could've done. We just need to realize that it is going to take a lot more to stabilize with a representative government than it did to take down Saddam. The Shiites will have to come to terms with this sooner or later. Better sooner! Later it will just me that much more difficult.
Their antics are quite ignorant and arrogant. Imagine if the American military marched down the streets of Basrah with tanks and guns chanting "Death to Shia". There would be an uproar. Especially on the left. Why isn't there an uproar when these ingrates mouth off with their hatespeak?

You would think after the events of the last year that anyone who is paying attention would not believe or try to assert that a street protest signified anything but extremist fringe politics...ESPECIALLY when it is reported by CNN.
