The overwhelming majority of Iraq's Muslim population is Shiite. I just think that those who backed Bush 110 percent have been a little hasty in declaring this an all-out success. Nation-building in Iraq will not be the same as it was in post-WWII Germany or Japan.

You got that right.

I think Bush's team has been extremely short-sighted about the post-war situation. There doesn't really seem to be a plan. Bring in Chalabi and Garner to sort of impose a secular democracy and get out fast.

On the other hand, I kept saying before the war to my friends that the last thing we want in Iraq is a democracy. What we really want is a nicer Saddam. A burtal but western-oriented dictator who will keep the shia's in check, not threaten Isreal, guarantee access to oil. Kind of like the Shah of Iraq.
