NOMINATION THREAD FOR THE FREE REPUBLIC GAROFALO AWARDS
Thursday, April 17, 2003 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/17/2003 7:27:08 PM PDT by kristinn

Nominations for Free Republic's Garofalo Awards are being accepted on this thread.

The Garofalo--ready-to-eat stuffed crows on a platter--will be awarded to prominent individuals in the media and elsewhere whose histrionic predictions of doom and gloom before and/or during Operation Iraqi Freedom stand head and shoulders above all others for their shrillness, certainty, and apocalyptic ravings.

To be nominated, the person must meet the criteria. Documentation will be needed (not necessarily provided by the nominator) to provide specific reasons when announcing the winners as to why they were singled out for special recognition.

Ten Garofolos will be awarded. We will do our best to present them to any winners who attend the White House Correspondents Association dinner April 26 when the D.C. Chapter holds its 5th annual freep there of liberal bias in the media.

Janeane Garofalo, whom the award is named for, is eligible to win.

Nominations close Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m. EDT. Voting will commence on a new thread soon thereafter.

The key to remember, and I think Hugh Hewitt has made this one ring home better than any media pundit out there - HOLD THESE LEFTIST BLAME AMERICA FIRST "PUNDITS" ACCOUNTABLE!!! They said the same thing about Reagan: "Bush will start WWIII" and look what it got 'em - NOTHING! NOW IS THE TIME FOR ALL GOOD MEN TO COME TO THE AID OF THEIR COUNTRY!!!....INCLUDING HOLDING THESE CLOWNS ACCOUNTABLE WHEN THE SPEAK IN THE FUTURE!!!

"I have at times as the war has unfolded secretly wished for things to go wrong. I wished for the Iraqis to be more nationalistic. I wished for them to resist longer. I wished for the Arab world to rise up in rage. I wished for all the things we feared would happen. And I'm not alone. A number of serious, intelligent, morally sensitive people who opposed the war have told me they've had identical feelings. More casualties would have been a preferred alternative to a larger moral negative of a victory that boosted President Bush's chances for reelection."

Do you have that article where Chris says that? I want to read it and show it to some people.

"This invasion of Iraq, if it goes off, will join the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, Desert One, Beirut, and Somalia in the history of military catastrophe. What will set it apart, distinguishing it for all time, is the immense--and transparent--political stupidity." --Chris Matthews, San Francisco Chronicle, August 25, 2002

I vote for Cassandra Chrissy.

Can you nominate radio callers? If so, I'd like to nominate this idiotic woman who called WBAI (Pacifica) Radio here in New York a couple of weeks ago. Of course she scoffed at the notion that we were going to liberate Iraq. She then went on to say that Iraq is a multi-ethnic society full of groups who historically don't like each other and would like to kill each other. Therefore, according to her brilliant analysis, Saddam Hussein has actually SAVED thousands of lives because he was the strongman who held all these groups together for so long.

I don't remember this dope's name, but I hereby offer her up as my nominee. A comment that breathtakingly stupid has got to be worth something.

So the categories are (just recapping here from other folks' good ideas)

"Your Fruedian Slip is Showing" Award

and perhaps a special media award for probing questions that can only receive a pre-digested answer, the "Katie Colon" award?

and maybe, the "Apocalypse NOT" award, for the most dire predictions...

How about the "Black Beret" award for the biggest suck up attributing the "Clinton Military" for any success in the war

And the "Baghdad Bob, Lifetime Acheivement" Award for the journalist who provided the most comfort to the Saddam Regime

The Ann Coulter "Ranger Rabbit" for the most deranged celebrity response to Americans exercising their own "freedom of speech," to criticise them.

And finally, the "Counting Crows" award for the outlet that managed to use the word "Quagmire" most often during the progress of the war.

I forgot, I think there should be a special "Take me to your leader" award for the most outstandingly dumb and traitorous question asked at a Centcom, Rumsfeld or Whitehouse briefing. You know, the kind of question that earned a "What planet are you from" look from the one one being questioned.okay, I know that Helen Thomas will win this one but all nominees should receive an American Flag lapel pin.)

Excellent catagories...we also need to add a special category for all those past Clinton admin. idiots who couldn't take care of the problem themselves but had plenty of criticism for GW for doing it. Perhaps named in honor of one of their best and brightest idiots - The Albright Halfbright Award.

One thing I find interesting about the perky Katie Couric is the fact that she got her break to stardom from Gulf War One. As I recall her reports didn't have the air of sadness for the poor Saddam as they did this go round. I guess she caught "celebrity-itis" in the ensuing years.

Michael D. Higgins made some very sweeping statements about the war, including this statement in the Dail on March 12:

“By the time this House returns on March 25 it is possible that up to one million mothers may be affected by the war, there may be 100,000 direct casualties and 400,000 secondary ones. Ten to 15 million people on food dependency may also be affected.”

Katie Couric from the NBC Today Show ....."hopefully" he (Saddam Hussien) made it to Syria.

That right, and don't forget her pronouncing Saddam's statue being dragged through Baghdad "a desecration."

Conventional Wisdom Watch, by Newsweek.

I was so ticked off at that whole issue I fired off a letter to the editor as to why we were maintaining our US News subscription but were letting Newsweek expire.

The better half and I actually got a line published in the letters section this week ("A couple from Hawaii wrote, 'From a quick glance through Newsweek, one would have thought we'd been at war for a year and that we were losing badly. Casualties on both sides were emphasized, not triumphs.'")

dagnabit has the green uniform shirt, epilauts and a black beret. I think I can find some dark, think frames for glasses.

Some heavy, thick lines of black makeup for eyebrows and a mustache like Groucjo Marx and I think we can "sell" Baghdad Bob.

"BB" as we like to call him, could call out, "Eason Jordan promised me Aaron Brown's job" and other such things to embarass CNN. Ops, my bad, there is nothing that embarasses CNN. Not even their piss poor ratings anymore.

"If America does this unilaterally, we are doomed. We're DOOMED."

The "we" that goes with "doomed" means the Hollywood Left. She knoew that once independent observers entered Baghdad and saw the rape and torture chambers their guy Saddam used against his people, the American People wouldn't stand for the Hollywood Left any longer and they were doomed.

It's the one thing she got right in all her rantings.

What are the chances of Scott Ritter doing jail time for trying to entice a 13-year-old girl into a sexual relationship? My God, what a creep!
