Author of the The Real Lincoln to speak TODAY at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia
Posted on 04/16/2003 5:44:44 AM PDT by Lady Eileen
Washington, DC-area Freepers interested in Lincoln and/or the War Between the States should take note of a seminar held later today on the Fairfax campus of George Mason University:
The conventional wisdom in America is that Abraham Lincoln was a great emancipator who preserved American liberties. In recent years, new research has portrayed a less-flattering Lincoln that often behaved as a self-seeking politician who catered to special interest groups. So which is the real Lincoln?
On Wednesday, April 16, Thomas DiLorenzo, a former George Mason University professor of Economics, will host a seminar on that very topic. It will highlight his controversial but influential new book, The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War. In the Real Lincoln, DiLorenzo exposes the conventional wisdom of Lincoln as based on fallacies and myths propagated by our political leaders and public education system.
The seminar, which will be held in Rooms 3&4 of the GMU Student Union II, will start at 5:00 PM. Copies of the book will be available for sale during a brief autograph session after the seminar.

KEYWORDS: burkedavis; civilwar; dixie; dixielist; economics; fairfax; georgemason; gmu; liberty; lincoln; reparations; slavery; thomasdilorenzo; warbetweenthestates

Misspelling words when you're trying to be clever makes you look like more of a moron than you are, and that appears to be a high bar.

Quote the law that lets the nonresidents vote or the one that lets the army watch you mark your ballot.

Are you trying to say that those secession ordinances were not read in full and voted on in their respective legislatures?

Thanks for the facts.
To: Chancellor Palpatine
since you are the one who keeps bringing up the documents, (which BTW most serious scholars DISCOUNT as un-important pieces of personal opinion-nothing more, nothing less)can you PROVE that any state did vote on the documents?
can you even PROVE that the private opinions/writings of a handful of wealthy planter-aristocrats were read by anyone but themselves & a few close friends?
hardly ANYONE read the "secessionist documents" in the WBTS period;fewer cared.in point of fact, most newspapers, rightly in my view, IGNORED the writings as UN-important.

"Actually you have shown, unintentionally I assume, why we find DiLorenzo so ridiculous. "
Non, I did not realize I was quoting Dilorenzo. I pulled all of that off a site last year. During that time, I did not copy a source for stuff I posted. You and a WP, taught me a lesson about being able to provide a sourse. Since then when I copy something, I make sure to provide a source. So if called I can at least provide it.
As far as his book, I have not read it. Thanks for the full quote.

Still arguing with these war criminal apologists? lol
I wonder how many millions of southrons celebrated the death of the American tyrant yesterday? Isn't it ironic that federal income taxes are due on the day that he was killed?
To: Protagoras
George Mason bump. For him, the school named after him, and the truths they teach there. Walter E Williams bump. Ditto.
To: Corin Stormhands
Do you live near there? Are you going to go to this?
To: Chancellor Palpatine

"the great emancipator"....what a horrible joke. The only thing great about the man was his lust for power and complete and total disregard for the Constitution and wishes of the founders. Every time I see one of these hero-worshipping blowhards falling all over themselves to defend the tyrant I chuckle at their ignorance. The brainwashing is nearly complete now...the marxists must be ecstatic.
Hope you and yours are doing well. Nice weather we're having in God's Country, isn't it?!
Deo vindice!

Worse
Lincoln destroyed the Constitution that was in place.

I guess that is what I do in these threads -- provide context.
