Tim Robbins - Beyond The Pale at National Press Club Today - Hollywood-Hero Responds

04-15-03- I was going to write an Op-ed today to go with our weekly Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame awards.

Then Tim Robbins spoke to the National Press Club today.  I've recorded it for your listening disgust.  To say it's beyond the pale is an understatement.

He has declared war on the 77% of the people in this country who support our president, this country and our troops.

Here is the audio

Hollywood-Hero needs to say, one more time for the record, free speech does not mean free of consequences.

Freedom to choose what we watch, rent or buy does not equal a blacklist.  It's called capitalism.

Actors are free to speak their mind, oppose the war, malign our president.

We, who disagree with their blanket dismissal of what most of America believes, are free to dissent.

We are free to decide NOT to watch a film, buy a CD, or rent a video.

That's where our power is and that's what they are really afraid of.  The buying power of the American public, the ones who allow them the lifestyles they enjoy.

There is no Hollywood Blacklist as they infer by bringing back this new form of McCarthyism in the guise of a Republican Administration.

This isn't even a boycott, it's about our country, our freedom to choose who we give our largess to in the form of our buying choices.

If Hollywood can't take the heat of their own convictions, perhaps they should find another line of work that would better suit them.

Whoops, typo alert. He didn't try to "do" Liz Hurley. He tried to ruin her for doing a non-union commercial.

That was a rather curious statement. ;-)

I thought he was rehearsing the Qweeg role for a remake of the Caine mutiny.

These people disgust me...They are so transparent in their hatred towards this president...

They want to use their face time to promote their own political agenda...Let it become a noose around their necks.

Still against the war Tim?

Sure he is. His mouth is more important to him than the newly-won freedom of millions of Iraqis.

They never got over Gore's loss, and they've been nursing their hatred ever since. Remember that hateful month after the election when the recounts were going on? That feeling has never left these people; if anything, it's festered and grown over time. Wait until next year, when the campaigns go into full swing. The bile they'll spew will be unbelievable. If anything, I hope their composure slips even more, as it will only make them all the more transparent. If they find a way to cover it all up and start speaking with silvered tongues again, worry.

I could hear this guy B!tch all day long and not really care. It's a great prostate enhancer, it makes me pee.

Hey pal (Timmy Robins) take the gas pipe. You no longer count, as if you ever did.

Bubbey....Clymer!

Robbins speaks openly on television before the National Press Club to complain about his loss of free speech.

The irony!!!

Robbins sounded like a clueless cry-baby today.

His paranoia of Bush, as if the back-lash against his and Sarandon's public statements are some sort of Bush conspiracy is just laughable.

I agree about the paranoia. He sounded like a true irrational paranoid with delusional fears of persecution. He was also just one step shy of needing some tin-foil. The guy has been removed from reality and the real world for WAY too long.

Erm...maybe. It could be just an act, though. Perhaps he's thinking he can play the victim and try to get some sympathy. Remember when Hillary played the victim game when BIG, BAD LAZIO (gasp) THREATENED her with a piece of paper?

This man has a forked tongue.

Well, Stephen King was down in Florida with his wacko wife protesting against the war. Or was it Bush. You get a twofer.

Does Mr. Robbins think for a moment he could wonder into any ethnic neighborhood and scream certain ethnic insults and escape unharmed? Perhaps he could but as another writer pointed out above, the consequences of your actions and words follow you throughout life. Suck it up Tim, you're a loser!

What a hypocrit! He should talk to the lady who was in the insurance companies ads---the ads which successfuly opposed Hillary's health plan! Shoot, Hillary flat out threatened the woman, that she would never act in anything again!

Poor Tim...he has lived in the make believe world so long, he doesn't know what is real...perhaps he should confide in his girlfriend's mother! She knows the truth!

Isn't he the talented author who wrote Even Cowgirls Get the Blues which is perhaps the ultimate love story? In the hands of master author Tim Robbins, love is found throughout the book; all its main characters devoutly believe in or eventually achieve love's magic, etc... Shouldn't we give him a break?

I'd like to know, who are these people sitting in "mute frustration" he refers to. If that ain't hyperbole I don't know what is. If any likeminded individuals from the Hollywood crowd are sitting on their hands with their pieholes muted, it's because they like their fat bankroll and want to remain marketable to the consuming public. Public backlash is a beautiful thing, ain't that right Dixie Chicks?
