It wasn't the red, white and blue human chain that they hoped for, but some South Florida residents showed their patriotism Sunday by relaying a flag from Wellington to Miami-Dade County.

Several dozen people from Palm Beach and Broward counties participated in a flag relay to show their support for the troops in Iraq. The original idea -- thousands of people standing side-by-side passing a flag to each other along U.S. 441 -- fell short, but organizers pushed ahead anyway. They decided to make it a relay walk, with one group of participants handing the flag off to others who were waiting.
