Ex-President Bill Clinton blamed Republicans for the boos he got Wednesday night at a birthday concert for country singer Willie Nelson at New York's Beacon Theater.
"The place went wild when [Clinton] was announced," reports Friday's New York Post Page Six. "There was loud booing and yelling."
Several callers to WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg Show who attended the event described the scene afterward. One quoted the ex-prez as complaining, "I see the Republicans are here tonight."
Another saw a fellow concertgoer who stood up, booed and gave Clinton the finger - prompting security to escort him out of the hall.
The Post confirmed Clinton's Republican comment, adding that he "seemed angered" at his reception.
The remark riled the crowd so much, said the paper, that when Nelson returned to the stage, he asked if everyone was all right.
The concert was taped for a Memorial Day airing on the USA network. "No way will they include the Clinton booing in the broadcast," predicted Malzberg.
Listen to Steve Malzberg in his new time slot on WABC, 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. ET weeknights, 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays.

I am saddened, deeply saddened, that he got his feelings hurt.

Yes, but why waste time pining for the unachievable, i.e., revenge? What happened from 1993-2001 happened, it can't be changed. We now have a real president who's just led this country to a victory in a foreign war, and now needs to turn his attention to a different kind of war at home with people who want to destroy him and prevent him from enacting a vision in this country that I think the vast majority of posters here would like to see enacted, and I personally think that focusing on the past distracts us from that mission.
I don't mean forget what happened. We need to learn from it and try not to make the same mistakes. But we don't need to dwell on it.
And, thank God, I don't see anyone either currently on the Dem side, or on the horizon, with anything close to Bubba's skills, so I doubt we'll have to deal with his like again any time soon. I wouldn't urinate on the man if he was on fire in front of me, but giving Satan his due, I think he was one of the five greatest U.S. politicians of the 20th century, the others being FDR, Nixon, George Wallace and Reagan. And I'm judging him and the others strictly on their skills as practitioners of the art and science of politics, not on their philosophies or stances on the issues.

Civility is not dead! Clinton deserves every boo he gets and more -- in fact he deserves to be wearing orange for what he did to our military! Most RATs don't know the meaning of the word civility -- all they do is attack -- Kerry is the perfect example!!!!!!

In 1986, on a Sunday morning in June, I sat in the congregation of a large Baptist church in Little Rock. The choir entered, clad in long, bright, flowing robes. I couldn't help but notice Governer William Clinton in the direct center, smiling from ear to ear, and singing "Jesus Saves" at the top of his lungs. No camera could possibly miss him.
I'll never forget that moment.

"Don't people have any manners anymore?" No, but they sure can find excuses for being rude. Blame the lack of civility on someone else, or the person/group you disagree with.
I must be a Pre-Cambriancon - I like & long for the days that were depicted by respect & honor being shown to everyone - even those you don't like. Booing only shows how little self-control the booer has - not to mention low self-esteem.

I really think that there are a lot of people who post here who still have this dream that somehow, some way, right will finally win out and Bubba will wear the orange jumpsuit he so richly deserves."Never give up"

All I can say is someday we will find a way of getting rid of cockroaches and hopefully it will be the same of getting rid of the clintons. Stepping on them just makes them multiply

Wonder if Beezlebubba will be introducing Willie at his Texas gigs any time soon? Bite your tongue. We Texans don't want him getting the idea he is worthy of breathing the same air we do. Besides he and Al Gore swore Texas air is too polluted to support life during Gore's campaign.

What's your point?
My point is that by being so "in your face" all the time the conservative point of view can be drowned out. If your audience only hears catcalls & jeers - they probably will have a very difficult time hearing anything else you may have to say. Gloating over victories & dancing over a fallen opponent is not the way to win friends and influence people. Remember the victory of the '94 elections and what happened after.

His point is to make us not boo Clinton when Clinton appears. We are to feel guilty about being uncivilized, you see.
This is the tactic that the Rats have used on Republicans for years. Since we are generally a civilized lot, we are made to feel guilty and keep our mouths shut. Then people like Clinton can go their merry way, pretending that they are well-liked and we are in the minority.
This technique worked for the Rats for many years. Post 9/11, it doesn't work any more, which is why it is suuch a feeble criticism when read in black and white here on these pages.
There are a whole host of Rat techniques that are failing...class warfare, race warfare, making Republicans feel guilty, political correctness, anti-patriotism, hatred of oil companies, etc. etc.
Their playbook is out of date, and they don't know what to do.

Maybe if Bill Clinton were a human being, I'd say let's act with some class. However, since he views nothing as having bounds, then neither should we.
Listen, I respect the office of POTUS. He was President. However, the problem is that he didn't act like one.
