Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Its looting and rioting only when its carried out against an anti-American dictatorship. Then its viewed by the press as a counter-revolution.

I have a Vietnam refugee friend that I saw yesterday and he was excited, wondering if we would go back again without the political limitations...he knows what it was like and what it can be like after living in the US for 25 years....

I saw him,,cute! Is it strange that none of the looters have tvs or vcr's. This is sort of low budget looting on the fly. One guy had like an old cabinet of some kind. These looters ought to demonstrate for better booty.
To: Trust but Verify
A big bump to that.
He must be so embarassed.

Those were UN sanctions, and were also violated by France, Germany and Russia (among others) Pasted the wrong comment, doh. Let me try again. I know the above, you know the above, any sane person knows the above, so what do we do about the liberals? :-)

IF the idiotic four (france, germany, russia, china) had STAYED WITH THE PROGRAM and enforced the sanctions, Saadumb would likely have been broken long, long ago.

He definately deserves the other star for his patience in dealing with enemy pressers everyday. I don't know how he does it.

These are happy looking looters taking the booty from the Iraqi govt office. I love the guy with the yellow plastic flowers,,what a funny thing to loot.
It isn't so much that they are wanting things of value, but that they want symbolic representations--"I helped take Saddam down and I took ____ from him." It is no less symbolic than those who took pieces of the Berlin Wall when it came tumbling down. It is a symbol of liberation.
To: goldstategop
I would assume they're going to do like they did in Basra--take everything out of the government offices that isn't cemented down.
Those flea markets in Iraq are going to be great for bargain hunters in the next few months.
To: Kip Lange
But what do we do about the liberals? ;-) Take their money and influence.
To: cajungirl
Oh, here they come: the journalist questions.
As I said last night, I would LOVE to hear any embedded reporter discuss this Palestine Hotel issue with ANY of these 'hotel jockeys.' I bet they don't agree.

low budget looting One Brit soldier was quoted yesterday, very sympathetically, saying "They're looting rubbish. Poor souls.".

I dunno,,that n korean dude hasn't broken yet, nor has castro. I doubt that sanctions work but that is another story.
To: bornintexas
Maybe he has a "happy place" he goes in his head while he answers the questions...after all, it would only take about 5% of Brooks' intellect to deal with these morons, leaving the other 95% free to think about...umm...Anna Kournikova AND military planning.

Exactly! He thought he'd get a deal from France. If France had stood with us threatening force, this wouldn't have been necessary!
