Operation Iraqi Freedom
This thread is dedicated to the brave men and women of the
Armed Forces of the United States of America.
"Wish You Were Here"
For all the free people that still protest.
You're welcome. We protect you and you are protected by the best.
Your voice is strong and loud,
but who will fight for you? No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers, and sons,
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own,
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die,
We might not be able to save the world, Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
so when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.
Corporal Joshua Miles and all the boys from 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines,
Kuwait 3/9/2003

Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help! If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

These are happy looking looters taking the booty from the Iraqi govt office. I love the guy with the yellow plastic flowers,,what a funny thing to loot.

I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to the brilliant military strategery of President Saddam and his generals. Rarely, if ever, does one lose control of an entire country in less than 3 weeks. The French may be an exception.
Very well said! ROFLMAO!!

The Bagcam wench is on MSNBC! Had to go make breakfast for my son - what did she say? Was it the same as earlier?
To: cajungirl
It could have.

Indeed, I like Brooks a lot. Cuts to the chase, no BS, very businesslike, very respectful and restrained despite the level of inanity directed at him sometimes.

I just checked. If Vince had gotten a promotion, I would've been celebrating.

I know.

get ready for, "...and this is what 12 years of US sanctions have done to the Iraqi people..." Those were UN sanctions, and were also violated by France, Germany and Russia (among others)
To: Trust but Verify
What a picture! I just pray the Iraqi's do the right thing with the gift President Bush, PM Blair, and our brave military have given them.
And by the blood of some very brave and heroic men and women who gave their lives for Iraq's liberation.
To: kcvl

This is actually very amazing. Iraq is not small, either, and we definitely encountered a hostile environment. Nevertheless, it appears we have prevailed in well under a month! Historic. This brilliant military campaign will be studied and emulated, possibly for over a century - not only the strategy and tactics used, but no doubt the methodology which was employed in designing the plan.

Some guy is asking about a cease-fire. Vince says, "not yet."
To: TomGuy
Oh geez........the news boy wants to know why we don't have a cease fire since the fighting is so one-sided.
Brooks says they can SURRENDER.

I've always been interested in tunnels, too. My girlfriend's from Brooklyn and I used to ride their subway all the time and just stare in facsination at all the tunnels and rooms and hideaways off to the side...totally interesting!
My Mom was born and raised there, too, and was a Rosie The Riveter for Lockheed during WWII, and used to take the Red Line to Watts every weekend to hear people like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, and she NEVER heard of any tunnels under L.A.!
Are you sure of this?
As a side remark, in Ashland, Oregon, (southern Oregon) there was an article about an old tunnel that was discovered that Chinese miners had made in the 1800's. They filled it in without exploring it. There's also stories the old timers tell about tunnels that still exist under the local cities, all made by Chinese miners in the 1800's. Fascinating!
Ghost towns are just as interesting, every time I go to Comdex in Vegas I go to Gold Field and Gold Point and explore all the old mines and abandoned buildings.
Is there any books I can read about those old tunnels?
Thanks!
Ed

The "reporters" want to make it sound like they are criminals. But, when this happens in others cities it's ONLY "civil unrest". And when it happens in LA and anyone NOT black gets killed, it's "black rage against white oppression" -- and somehow morally justified.

Kurdish-U.S. Forces Seize N. Iraq Target
By BRIAN MURPHY
Associated Press Writer
IRBIL, Iraq (AP)--As American troops strengthened their hold on Baghdad, U.S. special operations forces fought Iraqi forces and allied warplanes pounded away at Iraqi positions Wednesday in the key northern city of Mosul.
Allied forces were ``actively engaging'' Iraqi forces in Mosul and Saddam's Hussein's hometown of Tikrit--widely considered the last stronghold of his resistance--according to Lt. Mark Kitchens, a U.S. Central Command spokesman.
