Kurdish-U.S. Forces Seize N. Iraq Target

IRBIL, Iraq (AP)--As American troops strengthened their hold on Baghdad, U.S. special operations forces fought Iraqi forces and allied warplanes pounded away at Iraqi positions Wednesday in the key northern city of Mosul.

Allied forces were ``actively engaging'' Iraqi forces in Mosul and Saddam's Hussein's hometown of Tikrit--widely considered the last stronghold of his resistance--according to Lt. Mark Kitchens, a U.S. Central Command spokesman.
