Captured Iraqi Colonel asks "How long have they been lying like this?
Sky News ^ | Colin Brazier

But things are changing and, as the days pass, minds are changing too.

A captured Iraqi colonel being held in one of the hangars listened in astonishment as his information minister praised Republican Guard soldiers for recapturing the airport.

He looked at his captors and, as he realised that what he had heard was palpably untrue, his eye filled with tears. Turning to a translator, he asked: "How long have they been lying like this?"

How long have they been lying like this?

Who would ever think that the leader of a country would ever be anything less then 100% honest with his own people.

I saw on CNN last night, somebody like Aaron Brown said, "No, this is not Wayne Newton's living room..." while they were showing one of Saddam's palaces.

Freepers, don't you just dream of the day your liberal friends wake up and ask the same question ?

What liberal friends ? I don't want to associate with people of that mental calibre (i.e. crippled minds)

Reminds me of when an art critic declared that Elvis Presley's Graceland was "tacky." The King replied, "I like a little tack."

According to Marines on the ground they have yet to find very many Iraqis....mostly who were mentioned above and Saudis. The time has come to question the legitimacy of all 2-bit dictatorships who claim to be our "allies". Unless they are a democratic country and their leaders are not 'lifers' they should have no place at the UN table...but then again, the UN should have no place on our soil as they are irrelivant and out-dated.

On a related subject, (my two cents worth) the Pali's should not be given any place on earth for them to create another TERRORIST state. There is no room to co-exist with someone who would strap grenades to children. If they plan to have their kids come to a battle ground, next time try teaching the little ba$tard$ (cowards who hide behind little girls and reporters) to shoot straight! Better yet, they should join the other Neanderthals and accept extinction.

The walls are covered with ornamental designs. Spiral staircases rise to the expensively furnished rooms upstairs and Grecian-style pillars led us through the building. Though it was dark - Baghdad lost electricity several days ago - we could see gold-edged furniture and paintings. In one bathroom we saw expensive fittings and gold taps. There was a sense of mounting anger. This was bought with money from oil sales which should have been buying food and medicine for Iraqi children.

This bears repeating. For the last couple of years we've been blamed for depriving the Iraqis of food and medicine. Yet no one ever mentioned that Saddam always seemed to have a spare buck or two to build himself a palace. I also read somewhere that one of his horrid sons had his own private zoo stocked with rare creatures. Brutal torture and represssion combined with lavish excess = misery for the people. Now the truth is there for all to see.

I think it was about 2000 years early than that, i.e., sometime around when Abraham begat Ishmael. (Did I say that out loud?)

INDEED!  (Story follows......)

#1 God's Promise

NIV Genesis 15:1-6
 1.  After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward. "
 2.  But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit  my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"
 3.  And Abram said, "You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir."
 4.  Then the word of the LORD came to him: "This man will not be your heir, but a son coming from your own body will be your heir."
 5.  He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars--if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."
 6.  Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

#2 God moves too slow, so let's help HIM out!
NIV Genesis 16:1-12
 1.  Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar;
 2.  so she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her."   Abram agreed to what Sarai said.
 3.  So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.
 4.  He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.   When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress.
 5.  Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me."
 6.  "Your servant is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her.
 7.  The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.
 8.  And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?"   "I'm running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
 9.  Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her."
 10.  The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count."
 11.  The angel of the LORD also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery.
 12.  He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward  all his brothers."

#3 God  blesses Ishmael
NIV Genesis 17:17-21

 18.  And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!"
 19.  Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac.  I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.
 20.  And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.
 21.  But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year."

(I would say that the OIL is QUITE a blessing, eh?)

Now, we know the REST of the story!

"... Turning to a translator, he asked: "How long have they been lying like this?"

Likewise, many will say, "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble........",
refering to the Deceiver of us all!

Isaiah 14

 1.  The LORD will have compassion on Jacob; once again he will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land. Aliens will join them and unite with the house of Jacob.
 2.  Nations will take them and bring them to their own place. And the house of Israel will possess the nations as menservants and maidservants in the LORD's land. They will make captives of their captors and rule over their oppressors.
 3.  On the day the LORD gives you relief from suffering and turmoil and cruel bondage,
 4.  you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury  has ended!
 5.  The LORD has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,
 6.  which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression.
 7.  All the lands are at rest and at peace; they break into singing.
 8.  Even the pine trees and the cedars of Lebanon exult over you and say, "Now that you have been laid low, no woodsman comes to cut us down."
 9.  The grave  below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you-- all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones-- all those who were kings over the nations.
 10.  They will all respond, they will say to you, "You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us."
 11.  All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you.
 12.  How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
 13.  You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
 14.  I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."

 15.  But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.
 16.  Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble,
 17.  the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?"
 18.  All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb.
 19.  But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot,
 20.  you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be mentioned again.
 21.  Prepare a place to slaughter his sons for the sins of their forefathers; they are not to rise to inherit the land and cover the earth with their cities.
 22.  "I will rise up against them," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will cut off from Babylon her name and survivors, her offspring and descendants,"  declares the LORD.
 23.  "I will turn her into a place for owls and into swampland; I will sweep her with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD Almighty.

This is sad. But he is not the only one who has believed those lies".

During the Centcom briefings several days ago, the press kept asking one of the generals (repeatedly) why Iraqi TV was reporting that the airport was still not taken over by the Americans.

Some reporters, human shields, etc see but cannot comprehend that this is a lying despicable regime.

I want to know how much money did the hypocritical Swiss have in their coffers for Saddam and his heirs. The fact they opposed this war speaks volume.

Interesting statement. What did he think they were saying? What did he think about what they were doing, that the world didn't care, didn't know, or accepted what the regime was doing?

Unless he was willing to go the martyr route like Solzhenitsyn or other early Soviet dissidents, there was no point to questioning before liberation. It would only get himself and more importantly his wife, children and relatives killed or maimed for no good reason.
