(AP) Elizabeth Smart's family has hired a Los Angeles entertainment attorney to help them screen movie and book proposals about Elizabeth's abduction and remarkable return.
Kelly Crabb, who reportedly has negotiated contracts for Paul McCartney, Dave Matthews and Muhammad Ali, was hired a week ago, said Chris Thomas, the family's spokesman.
According to his firm's Web site, Crabb's areas of practice include motion picture, television and other programming production and financing; composer agreements, personal appearances and motion picture distribution.
"These kind of contracts are very specialized," Thomas said.
Crabb received bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young University before earning a law degree from Columbia University in 1984. He also worked for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.
Elizabeth, now 15, was abducted from her bedroom on the night of June 5. On March 12, she was found in a Salt Lake suburb with her alleged kidnappers.

Erring on the side of caution with your children is what cautious parents do. BECAUSE so many bad things, accidents etc. happen, you try not to help those things along. GET IT? No, I didn't think you would.

Actually, I posted that I thought that the story about the homosexuality was irrelevant whether true or not. I also said that I didn't think it was right to attack the victims in that way. People like you are the ones that give Mormonism a bad reputation. It makes people think that they are a bunch of nuts. You seem to think that anyone who does not believe as you do are evil. Stop imputing negative connotations to my posts. I resent the name calling and derrisive attitude. You are a bad example of Christian Mormonism.

Tell you what. Just pay real close attention to what happens with the soon to be written books and filmed movies. And pay attention to how the mormon church uses those things. I will. And then you and your crackpot conspiracy theories will be proven utterly false. But I'm sure that won't stop you. There will be other fine families for you to unfairly disparage and to bear false witness against.

I actually made a vow not to post anymore on this topic- shouldn't have done so today. However, since you ask, this whole story stank from the beginning. The "abduction" was clearly bogus (how many kidnappers send the victim back to get her shoes?). The story kept changing, and I'm still not sure whether the sister was in on it, or just cruelly duped.
The very strange Mr Ed Smart had a regular revival meeting at the house- PRIOR to calling the police, he had something like 20 neighbors at the house, destroying any hope of finding evidence. These anomalies go on and on- but basically, I just dislike the simpering, whimpering fatuous Ed Smart, and I don't believe a word that comes out of his lying mouth.
Call it a "gut feeling"- but I have worked with lots of liars, criminals, and psychopaths- and this guy has been lying from Day One.
I can see no benefit to anyone involved in the true story (whatever it is)ever being made public, so last-ditch defenders like ILBAY will always be able to shout down anyone who points out the gaping holes in this story.
You can bet that the movie made from this will be the sappiest sort of fiction- I'm sure the script has been written already.
By the way, I am not one of the "Westerfield was innocent" crowd. I only said that it was very likely that he had been at the Van Damme's home BY INVITATION that night, and left with the child while the other adults were otherwise occupied. (ILBAY has made the blanket charge that all of us who doubt the Elizabeth Smart hoax are also secret supporters of the murdering pedophile Westerfield. Not so.)

Googled him.
Robert Tilton is a similiar fraud that Joseph Smith was.
Or new couplet.
As Robert Tilton now is, Joseph Smith once was; The fraud Joseph Smith is, Robert Tilton may be.

Don't ask me a question and then answer it. Hindsight is 20/20. Next time you smile at someone in the supermarket, know that he might be a mass murderer waiting for you by your car. If you want your child to live in fear, fine...more luck to you. That's not the way I choose to live.

You're right that Utah Girl never engages in the name calling attacks that others on this forum engage in, but she should have been able to discern from the fact that I was defending Ed Smart's hiring of an entertainment lawyer, that I was not attacking the LDS church.
I am just sick and tired of some of the Mormons on Free Republic attacking anyone who does not adhere to their beliefs, whether you are making negative comments or not. It is irrational.

So you believe that the Van Dams were more concerned about "what people would think of them" than about finding their daughter... and you're gut feeling is that the Smarts are lying SOBs. You're a real creep, aren't you?

Negative comments about Ed or Tom Smart's behavior is not a commentary on the church to which they belong. One would think that seemingly rational people could understand that. Apparently, not all can.
To: Risa
""SHUT UP!", HE EXPLAINED"" (I think that's a Ring Lardner story title- I'm too busy to look it up- but it seems appropriate to ILBAY's style of argumentation- on practically any topic.)

Yes, that is pretty much what I do believe. Make of it what you will- I couldn't care less.

I agree.
Irrational personal attacks do not help anyone.
We should look into this case as a lesson to all of us with daughters.
We cannot be too vigilant about their safety, and we should be very careful about bringing strangers into our homes.
I hope I will remember these lessons in the future, not letting my guard down.

"
Do you expect the Uncle to answer every call about the photos from all the media orgs. that request them? Please. Why does everything have to be so sinister."Give it a rest, Hildy. The Smart's got FREE press and interviews to help find their daughter. The Christian thing to do would be to at least offer some photo's of her for FREE, you know, sort of a thank you "gesture" for all the media attention they received. But they aren't doing that...$$$$.
They WANT the movie made, they hired an Entertainment Lawyer.
The Smarts have proven once again, sadly, that most everyone has their price.
