Despite being outnumbered, the U.S. group vanquished the Iraqi Republican Guard force within minutes, thanks to superior armed vehicles and devastatingly powerful ammunition.
"My commander called me, gave me the warning order to be prepared to conduct an attack on 22 stationary T-72s [Soviet-built tanks used by the Iraqis] that the [U.S.] Air Force had identified," Lyle said.
"I selected a force, tank heavy, almost all the tanks in my troop, with some Bradleys [armored fighting vehicles] to go with it."

The M1 is equipped with a Honeywell AGT 1500 gas turbine engine. The Allison X-1100-3B transmission provides four forward and two reverse gears. The US Army has selected Honeywell International Engines and Systems and General Electric to develop a new LV100-5 gas turbine engine for the M1A2. The new engine is lighter and smaller with rapid acceleration, quieter running and no visible exhaust. Dayummmm, put sweptback wings on that thing and it will prove the theory that even a Coke machine with a large enough engine will fly (note: the F-4).

and 555 co-produced with Egypt. Egypt has ordered a further 200 M1A1 tanks with production to continue to 2005. 77 M1A2 tanks have been built for the US Army, 315 for Saudi Arabia and 218 for Kuwait.
Hopefully we don't come to regret any of these orders some day.

quieter running and no visible exhaustThe first sign that something is going very wrong is when your T-72 explodes around you....

Hopefully we don't come to regret any of these orders some day.Not to worry, the reason why we win is not because of the technology, which is awesome, but because of our people. That's why this war's outcome was never in doubt.

I don't know how they baffled the exhaust, but I imagine it's a derivative from some of the stealth technology that's been developed over the last couple of decades.

>>...U.S. Bradley fighting vehicles, despite being lighter, wiped out some of the Soviet-vintage T-72 tanks, a significant military milestone....<<
No doubt with the help of a couple of TOW's.

And that's why they didn't call in air support.

One of the embeddeds showed a couple of coalition guys examining a turret that had popped off a destroyed Iraqi tank. You could see several clean holes drilled in it about the size of a quarter. It probably looks like the fourth of July inside the tank when those rounds come in and that depleted uranium burns.

No doubt with the help of a couple of TOW's. No doubt, the TOW can reach out and touch you at 3750 meters.

The slug came out of the other side. The reason why the turret blew off is because of the overpressure created by the force of the kinetic energy round. The initial spauling of the inside of the tank killed the crew first (5000 fps of hot metal bouncing around) then the round came in and exited. out the other side.

Just a question. The 25mm chain gun is capable of killing a T-72? I know they carry TOW missile launchers, but in all the specs I've ever read, going back to '84, the chain gun was useful for light armor like BMPs. If a Bradley can take out a T-72 that's a whole new world of armored combat.

You want to stop the Fedayeen and the rest of the idiots with the RPGs? Bring in a company of these with the next recon by fire:
There's just nothing in this world that can take away the fighting spirit faster than facing a Vulcan in ground fire mode. (Why don't they mount some of these on Bradleys anyway?)

That's got to make the Kremlin shiver -- two Bradley's killing five T-72 tanks.
