Gradually, the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier has made its way halfway across the world. It would be wrong for me to speculate on where it will be positioned.
It has left the Indian Ocean, and according to US Navy sources, is now somewhere in the Arabian Sea -- technically now one of four carrier groups operating in the Arabian Sea.
It is shortly going to be in a position to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln -- currently 3 months past its 6 month normal deployment. That might be reason for where and when it is deployed. Or there may be other reasons for its deployment in this region.
It may also temporarily increase the number of carriers in the area of the Persian Gulf (but not necessarily) to four.
But how this carrier is used is up to CNO and the JCS.
Godspeed ships of the USS Nimitz carrier group!
And may God watch over our sailors, soldiers, airmen, and marines!.

Just curious. With the war seemingly winding down, and with our troops in control of a number of Iraqi airbases, why do we need four carrier battle groups all in one place?
Is really it worth the risk?

One of the news channels had the Super Hornets from the Lincoln getting ready to transfer to the Nimitz because they need them for refueling.
The Lincoln has been out for over nine months and am sure they are more than ready to get back home.

The superb deployment of Abe Lincoln makes me ever so proud to be a Navy Man.
And, just a reminder -- the toughest job in the world, imho, is that of a Navy Wife !! We had it easy by comparison; night landings, combat, wx, etc. notwithstanding.
Hurrah for the Blue and Gold !!!

My son on the Lincoln sent this with the caption: "Here's the Abe, 5 minutes after the Nimitz arrives."
I think these sailors are "beyond" burn out ... however, they did get a little R&R in Perth, before being recalled to the Middle East.

How much firepower do you think that we'll be needing over there in another week?
