Thanks for this report. God has blessed this nation with the Bush family. You are fortunate to have been able to spend time with Barbara Bush - and to tell her you love her - speaking for millions who agree with your words. Nicely written report - thanks! (And for being ASSERTIVE to get to be in the picture with our beloved Barbara Bush!)

as she watches George W. guide our country through this most difficult time, she cant help but wonder if this is the same kid she used to spank and tell him to clean his room!

Spoken like a true mother, as is the rest of this wonderful piece. Thanks for the ping, the laughs, and the tears it produced!

I do agree, she's much smaller in person, as is Laura. I had the privilege of seeing them up close them during the 2000 campaign. They are both lovely!

OhioWFan, thanks for the ping! I loved reading your account of your evening with the former First Lady. What an awesome evening it must have been for you and your hubby!

Btw, when you talk to Eric, tell him that a family friend (that's me of course) said hello. Not a day goes by that I don't think of and pray for you guys.

*Excellent* report of your evening with a truly wonderful woman. I love it so much it has been bookmarked!

Having lived outside of Dayton from 1988-96, she is representative of the wonderful people that are born of the midwest - warm, witty and friendly. I had the pleasure of visiting the campus of Miami University several times - it's so beautiful there.

Cherish your memories! {{{HUGS}}}

First Mom

I loved this article, Ohio !! It reminded me so much of the most FAVORITE book I have ever read. "BARBARA BUSH A Memoir".

For anyone who has not read it, let me highly recommed it to you. It is almost 600 pages, and don't let that freak you. From the first sentence to the last, it will grip you. You will fall in love with Barbara !! You will meet a fiercely loving and loyal wife. A protector of her family. A crusader for her husband. An example of what a woman is.

You will be in awe of how much LIFE they have led !! I would have this book on the cupboard as I prepared a meal. I could not put it down ! I can see where Geo. W. gets his sentimental soft side...HIS DAD !! and I can see where he learned how to be strong in any situation...HIS MOM !! I really hope you go on the journey of Barbara Bush's life in this book. I am telling you..you will never, ever, forget it. I haven't !

Thank you so much for a wonderful report. Besides being a wonderful mother and gracious First Lady, she is an excellent speaker. You are aweome for being able to share such a great recounting of the whole experience with us.

During the campaign, my aged mother wrote a very nice note to her, mother to mother, to ask her to suggest to W that he stop the habit that some people called the 'smirk.' Mother got a lovely personal reply back.

And we dont see that downturned half-smile any more either, do we. *L*

Thank you! You told it so well that I felt as tho I was there with you.

I also felt the angst at the line cutters. What is it with these people who have such nerve to push in?? I hate it when they do that! But - on the bright side, your "NO" caught the attention of 'Bar' and you will always have that wonderful memory! (but I still hate line cutters)
