[history]
As I was driving past the pro-war demonstrators at Blackstone and Shaw avenues, I smiled at them but held up a peace sign to politely show that I do not support the war on Iraq. To my dismay, this civil gesture was met with rudeness. People yelled at me, shoved their signs in my face and made fun of me, telling me to go back to school to learn about people who had protected me in past wars.

I am in high school and recently completed a college-level U.S. history course. I recall learning that World War I was the main reason for the tumultuous climate in Germany that allowed Hitler to take power; war has not, and will not, create a stable aftermath conducive to peace. It wasn't WW1 that created the climate for WW2; it was the peace treaty imposed on Germany that did. Besdies WW2 did create a stable aftermath for peace, at least between the U.S. and the former axis nations.
Besides, holding up a peace sign these days is an obscene gesture to many.

More evidence of a brain exposed to our education system.
Once again, we supported Hussein only to the extent that Iran wouldn't win, and Iraq wouldn't win. Why is that such a hard concept for her teachers to understand?
Also, Japan, Germany, France... look there are examples of modern nations who have come out of war to a peaceful prosperous future. Okay, France... well...

V for victory..its not a peace sign.

Dang, the dreaded HTML command in the title.
The protesters I've seen at Blackstone and Shaw always seemed tame enough to me. I wonder if this student is exaggerating a tad. I've never heard "peace" demonstrators cited as models of politeness.

though there is no evidence of it, but was told to just believe and ignore the facts...
I was not taught that Nations have no permanent enemies or friends, only permanent interests...
I am a stupid child and have no learning, but I believe what I've been taught...

They
yelled? At a demonstration??
How very shocking.
You poor thing... it must have been terribly traumatic.
By the way, did they obstruct traffic, destroy property, injure police officers, or call for the deaths of American soldiers?
I didn't think so.

Yes the treaty of Versallies and the weak wiemar republic is what created the enviorment that was ripe for Hitler's rise to power. The weak League of Nations also didn't enforcc it's sanctions on the size of the German Military either ANYONE SEE ANY PARALLELS????

Next time, honey, just honk your horn or wave or a thumbs up sign. We find that to be more supportive. I know--I've been on the streets. Peace signs are remanents of the Vietnam anti-war demonstrators, and interpretive as being supporters of the other group.

I recall learning that World War I was the main reason for the tumultuous climate in Germany that allowed Hitler to take power; war has not, and will not, create a stable aftermath conducive to peace. The United States had little to do with creating those conditions. However, the FRENCH and the British did! Did her "College Level" course include this much overlooked fact, or did it merely say it was all the US's fault? I thought so. (sigh)

I'm afraid you have miles to go in your education.
On the other hand, were these "nasty" people physically abusive? Did they trash your car? throw bricks at you?
Check out the peacenik antics...

I agree and disagree.
If the US had stayed out of a war that wasn't any of their BUSINESS IN THE FIRST PLACE THE WAR WOULD HAVE IN A DRAW. The US came in after the FRENCH TROOPS revolted and refused to advance and then went awol.
The US basically saved the day and allowed the French to impose it will on the Germans

it was the peace treaty imposed on Germany At the insistence of the French. That name keeps popping up when referring to the causes of grief and suffering throughout the twentieth and now the twenty-first centuries.

While I pray for the troops' safety, I do not agree that war will ever be a healing force in the world. War didn't solve colonialism, didn't end slavery, didn't stop the Holocaust, or anything else.
Another villager opens her mouth and confirms what was only once suspected.
btw, this dupe needs to taught that the V sign is the sign for VICTORY - not PEACE. Had she showed the V sign at a anti-appeasement rally, we would have cheered her.
Because of that, I can only surmise that she's a liar.

The weak League of Nations also didn't enforce it's sanctions on the size of the German Military..And the Russians were providing a secret place, Lipezk, just South of Moscow to train pilots for the Luftwaffe from 1924 to 1933.
