Care to explain yourself, mouth-breather? I build machine guns for a living, legally. I know full well what BATFE regs are. In case you didn't notice, several others here do, as well.
If you don't like ATF regs, complain to your Congressman, you pussy, not me.

He has a plan.
Besides, he's a hoot.

Can you beat 200 on the AQT?
Send for the "rifleman" package and get the straight
scoop on demil of m-14s to semi auto.

I carried one at Parris Island in '67, then a Garand during infantry training at Camp Geiger. The M-14 is a good weapon and one which has a LOT of advantages over the small caliber M-16. Of course, I'm biased, as the first one I carried (during Staging Bn at Pendleton in '69, was essentially a single shot .22, as I had to manually cock the thing every round. All the armorer said was, "Live with it." The M-14 was at least very reliable...

Any of the
parts (auto sear, selector, etc.) which make the full auto/select fire arm capable of full auto can be considered a Machine gun under ATF rules. It'd be hell to get busted for having a
part laying in a box somewhere, but that is the rule.
Seems bogus to me, the reciever could be milled in such a way as to make assembly impossible, without cutting and rewelding the reciever. The latter makes proper heat-treating d@mned difficult and could result in a dangerous firearm.
The M1A is hefty, but I like it. I prefer stout wood furniture on my rifles, maybe that is why I like older military style arms. I just can't see using a Stoner variant as a cane, crutch, or club in a pinch, much less mounting a bayonet on one....

The problem with the E2 pistol grip stock is that the trigger lever geometry is for an upward pull with the hand wrapped around a conventional stock, not a rearward pull with a more vertical fist wrap angle.
I normally prefer a pistol grip stock for ease and versatility of handling, but in this case, the rifle prefers otherwise.
(Please correct me if there was a different trigger lever to deal with this, especialy if it is available as an aftermarket replacement.)

However, from the stories he tells about the phenomenal accuracy of the M14 he had - he was able to make head shots at 300 or 400 yards with it.
2 MOA is no problem for a decent rifleman with an ordinary rack grade M14/M1A. I would not be surprised if he got close to 1 MOA.

Yeh, but the rule was generated by the BATF, it doesn't exist in the text of the law. And in any case, the move to distribute these rifles could be used as a lever to clean up some of the more egregious interpretations that the BATFags have made over the years. There is NO rational reason that the semi versions of M-14 should not be availible to the people as they are functionally identical to many other semiauto rifles.
To: Rifleman
Although differences exist, the M1A (quite identical)and the Mini 14 (similar)come to mind.
Remember, though, ATF seems to think (collectively) that Mr. & Mrs. Joe Six-Pack shouldn't be armed. Wouldn't want people shooting back after they kicked down the wrong door and stomped the cat to death (etc.).

Wouldn't want people shooting back after they kicked down the wrong door and stomped the cat to death (etc.). Just say that all funding of the BATF is to be from fees derived from the sale of surplus military rifles, fees derived from alcoholic beverage products, and fees derived from tobacco products. That would change the BATF's mind in a hurry.
Besides, that a good way to start trimming the federal budget deficit.

Sheesh! They'd be peddling surplus 105's!
To: Smokin' Joe
Sheesh! They'd be peddling surplus 105's! Whats so bad about that? We paid for it in the first place, when the govt doesn't need it, I'd say that we get money to get rid of it too, instead of shelling out even more to get rid of it.
To: Frohickey
"shelling out" LOL! I agree, but ammo might be a tad hard to come by. I don't think they carry it at the local sporting goods store.
Might be a bit of a deterrent to itinerant salesmen and burglars, though..
How many kids would love to climb on one in a park somewhere while listening to grandpa, (yes, grandpa) talk about sending steel downrange from a firebase somewhere--or how a fire mission saved his butt.....?
To: AnAmericanMother
I certainly hope this petition has some effect. It would be such a shame to see these great M-14 rifles destroyed.
Waste is such a horrible thing especially when an item is of such fine workmanship.

Good Lord! That's some lousy marksmanship.
I can put pretty much an entire mag in a 6" circle at 100 yds on iron sights with my FAL. I can't imagine "sighting in" a scoped bolt action to that low of a level of accuracy. That is borderline sacreligious.
To: FreedomPoster
Think that's bad ever seen a stainless bolt rifle that would not fire because of corrosion? The guy was complaining it would not fire so I offered to look at it. It took ½ hr to get the bolt out Browning A-Bolt there was rust in the chamber.

The M1A is one of the few that meet California approval under their SAW laws. There is no state that I know of that outlaws them. The problem with the ex-military M-14s is that they were created as selective fire weapons and the BATFE states that once a machinegun always a machinegun.

Rifleman replys:
That "once/always" regulation is not in the law. It is regulatory Bravo Sierra invented by the BATFags. Recovering those military M-14's for the citizens by converting them to semi is a rational and reasonable thing to do. We should argue that way. We should aways take such opportunities to salami slice the law and regulation back in our direction. Get simpethetic legislators to introduce modest amendments (legalize silencers, broaden the Curios and Relics liscense, allow purchase of handguns in any state if the transaction is legal in the home state, etc. You can think of lots of these) at every oportunity. We don't yet and may never have the political clout to take big bites, but "If you can't get five...take two."
