As some of you know, I have been encouraging FReepers to send messages of thanks to those nations that have supported our war efforts in Iraq. Go to www.embassy.org to send a message. Here is what was sent to the Polish embassy, and what was returned.
Subject: Thank you

Thank you for sending troops and supporting America. Please tell me products that you sell in the United States. I will look for them because I am anxious to return favors to our friends. I hope I can visit someday.
(signed, dfu)
Dear Sir or Madam,
We were very pleased to receive your word of recognition on the Polish support for the United States of America.
Poland and the United States share a bundle of common values and principles including democracy, freedom and liberty for all. Over the centuries both countries supported each other in their struggles Kazimierz Pu³aski and Tadeusz Kociuszko under the command of George Washington fought for the American liberation, and the Americans supported the Solidarity movement in the early 1980s.
I would like to inform you, that your e-mail has been sent to President of The Republic of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski.
I would also like to recommend you to visit the Embassys website www.polandembassy.org and the website of the Foreign Ministry of Poland www.msz.gov.pl. Also worth exploring is www.polandtour.org where you can find information on travel to Poland.

I am blessed to have two Polish Delis/bakeries within walking distance from my apartment in Brooklyn, along with a wonderful (if small) Polish restaurant. Now I'm getting hungry for some Pierogi and Piast Beer!

For those interested in visiting (or just learning about) Poland check out
the Cathedral in the Salt Mine.
This was carved out of the salt by three men and their assistants, working for 60 years

I see you have Czech Republic as part of the "Coalition of the Willing".........hmmmm......been looking at various .40 automatics, and CZ (made in the Czech Republic)is one of the brands I keep looking at. This could make my decision much easier!

Way cool.
When I was in the Corps, most of our machinegunners were big midwestern boys whose last name ended with 'ski'.
It takes a large muscular man to haul that much steel. A lot of them were Polish.

As far as I have been told and have researched, I am a Polish Pedigree! (lol!) In fact, just less than one week ago, my father in NJ told me he'd cleaned up his office, and found...in perfect condition...my grandmother's immigration papers from when she was two years old! She arrived at Ellis Island on the Amerika. Also in this pile of papers, my father found my great-grandfather's documents in their original envelopes, his photographs, and a wealth of other items!
As a child, I attended St. Mary of Ostrabrama Catholic School, the same one as did my mother and her mother. For both my mother and grandmother, the Sisters taught them in both English and Polish, as the town had a huge Polish Catholic population. Sadly, in the Spring of 2002, the school closed its doors.
It's been said, that on my maternal grandfather's branch of the family tree...there sits the Pontiff, himself! I kid you not! My great aunt still tells me that the Pope's mother and my grandfather's siblings are something like 3rd or 4th cousins.
Well, as you can tell, I am very proud of my Polish heritage. Just the same, I have been proud to see Poland among our allied coalition.
I will definitely write a letter! Thanks for the prompting!

Good job! I can say in Cleveland, not much of the Polish neighborhood remains (unlike Chicago), but a fine place to eat is Ewa's. There is also a bakery nearby. My last name is Orzech, which is Polish for walnut. My family is descended from Kupno, Poland, near Rzeszow. I have not been there yet, but will go in a year or so. My cousin Bernard is visiting the USA (lived with us a few months) and is in the Polish neighborhood in Chicago.
Pozdrowienia!

"Poland, I have been told, is gorgeous."
If mountains intrigue you, try the Carpathians. Southeastern region.

The Krakus brand we get here in US is really put together in Poland. They have wonderful fruit products and other items from Shav to Zur. Polish delis here have products made in Poland including brightly painted patterned Easter eggs.
Places where there are Polish communities having polish made products: Leaving out the more well-known there are areas in NJ(Linden); TX (Dallas), MD (Baltimore). Other Freepers can add places in their States.
Google makes it easier to find places to get products although sometimes you can find them in supermarkets in areas where there is a companent Polish community..

If you wanna see just WHY Poland feels so close idealogically to the United States I'd recomend reading the Polish Trilogy, the National Epic... It is a thrilling historicaal epic that rivals (and exceeds) the work of Tolstoy and Dumas, it really captures the Polish Character well.
Item numbers BK2227 BK2226 and BK016... I can't recommend it enough.
