If you wanna see just WHY Poland feels so close idealogically to the United States I'd recomend reading the Polish Trilogy, the National Epic... It is a thrilling historicaal epic that rivals (and exceeds) the work of Tolstoy and Dumas, it really captures the Polish Character well.
