I don't mention its political leaning to imply that Ms Bingham somehow deserved her fate (this family has already known more than its share of tragedy), but rather to argue that Ms Bingham probably went over there against the war.

The torture is a much bigger story than the release of the journalists.

Not to a journalist. If there is one point in the entire universe on which the average person can objectively say reporters are absolutely, unquestionably out of their skulls barking mad, it's on the issue of how important the rest of the world thinks journalists are. To the reporters, they're absolutely as well-known and important to the functioning of human society as the highest level government officials. To the people forced to consume their stuff (i.e. us), of course, we're like, "Who? What paper? They were missing?"

If it wasn't for the recovery of Pfc Lynch and the major battlefield gains we've been making over the last 24 hours, we'd be in the middle of a wall-to-wall Bingham & Newsday Fest right now across the board. And I bet at least one of those three people walks away with a Pulitzer next April for something they haven't written or photographed yet, and that isn't really Pulitzer material. Probably one of the Newsday guys, since it's a lot harder to fake the relevance of a photo.

While I'm glad the reporters were found... I did feel a little funny Tom Brokaw specifically mentioned Bingham was from a wealthy Louisville family (as opposed the the "average joes" also found). For all the talk of equality, perhaps Democrats are really elists?

I know exactly how you feel. I can't even watch the local news anymore. To much darn bias. For local news, I read the online edition of the paper and listen to AM talk radio. It's a shame that we don't have a FOX 'local news' option.
