[snip]They said they often heard the screams of other prisoners being tortured and saw some with their eyes and faces bloodied and swollen.
''There were beatings and torture going on outside our cells, in the corridor, literally,'' McAllester said. Other inmates hobbled around, apparently because the soles of their feet had been burned or otherwise injured.

Yes.
AP is completely ignoring this fact. I noticed a couple similar articles while doing my moderator stuff, decided to put it in breaking news. Hopefully it will be picked up by Fox or other reliable sources.

I happen to catch this "story" on CBS this morning; Diane Sawyer actually asked Bingham's cousin if she was kidnapped because of her work for Al Gore. What?? Are serious? Diane Sawyer asked that?

Bingham should be slapped for her work with Gore, but not kidnapped. The Clinton Gore admin was Sadamm greatest enablers, the torture chambers and coffers of the Hussein regime flourished under the the Toons reign of terror. Has Diane Sawyer really forgotten the free ride Hussein got from Clinton?

A very rich liberal family. I don't mention its political leaning to imply that Ms Bingham somehow deserved her fate (this family has already known more than its share of tragedy), but rather to argue that Ms Bingham probably went over there against the war. I suspect that her view has changed.

The torture is a much bigger story than the release of the journalists. One has to wonder why they would let them witness all they did, then let them go to report it.

I don't see how AP and the other presstitutes are going to be able to suppress this story. Although I suppose they've had an awful lot of practice at it these past ten years.

One has to wonder why they would let them witness all they did, then let them go to report it. Because for them it's probably no big deal. Burning a few people on the soles of their feet probably is very mild compared to what they do to the people who are really on their s*** list.
It's called dehumanization. After you've been torturing people for a few years, you begin taking it for granted.

I suppose it was a calculation on their part. Remember that Arafat was involved in this.
One question that crops up in my mind: Why does Arafat have so much stroke with the Saddam regime?
Anyway, they probably figured that if they released them the "grateful" presstitutes would overlook those niggling details.
And it looks, from what Admin Moderator has posted, that this has happened in part at least. This is the first article that has thought to mention the torture.

Why does Arafat have so much stroke with the Saddam regime? The answer to that question explains why American troops are, as we speak, wiping out the remainder of the Iraqi heavy divisions, and ruining Russia's arms sale prospects for the foreseeable future (you don't provoke a 21st century battle with 1960s military technology - that stuff is only good for threatening the unarmed).
Wipe out one major node, and you make that web a lot less cohesive. Arafat has the jack because they're pals and have been pals for a while.

Jesse's plan was to go to Palestine and take credit for what Arafat did.
Arafat and Jesse are friends.

This is the first article that has thought to mention the torture. It is noteworthy this story was written by a local reporter in Louisville for the local newpaper.
The national stringers are probably too busy digging up stories on "stalled" war plans and families shot up at US checkpoints to pay much attention to the likes of this.
As an aside, I would bet this "Gore supporter" in the past week had a Damascus Road conversion away from the Democrat Talking Points!

Notice how the media protected the identity of the 'rich and famous' photographer. We never even knew she was missing until she was safe.
The media has no problem revealing information that would harm our troops tho. No problem criticizing the war effort and doing their damnedest to harm the morale of our fighting men and women.
