I suppose it was a calculation on their part. Remember that Arafat was involved in this.
One question that crops up in my mind: Why does Arafat have so much stroke with the Saddam regime?
Anyway, they probably figured that if they released them the "grateful" presstitutes would overlook those niggling details.
And it looks, from what Admin Moderator has posted, that this has happened in part at least. This is the first article that has thought to mention the torture.

Why does Arafat have so much stroke with the Saddam regime? The answer to that question explains why American troops are, as we speak, wiping out the remainder of the Iraqi heavy divisions, and ruining Russia's arms sale prospects for the foreseeable future (you don't provoke a 21st century battle with 1960s military technology - that stuff is only good for threatening the unarmed).
Wipe out one major node, and you make that web a lot less cohesive. Arafat has the jack because they're pals and have been pals for a while.

This is the first article that has thought to mention the torture. It is noteworthy this story was written by a local reporter in Louisville for the local newpaper.
The national stringers are probably too busy digging up stories on "stalled" war plans and families shot up at US checkpoints to pay much attention to the likes of this.
As an aside, I would bet this "Gore supporter" in the past week had a Damascus Road conversion away from the Democrat Talking Points!
