This is the first article that has thought to mention the torture.

It is noteworthy this story was written by a local reporter in Louisville for the local newpaper.

The national stringers are probably too busy digging up stories on "stalled" war plans and families shot up at US checkpoints to pay much attention to the likes of this.

As an aside, I would bet this "Gore supporter" in the past week had a Damascus Road conversion away from the Democrat Talking Points!

I hope she gives Al Goore a call. He spent yesterday defending the Dixie Chicks.

The Courier-Journal was formerly one of the better newspapers in the Republic. I remember a Time / Newsweek article on newspapers back in the early '70s which dicussed the second tier of newspapers (the first tier would have been the NY Times, Wash Post, and Chicago Tribune then), and the Courier-Journal was in the ten papers of that second tier (along with such worthies as the Wall Street Journal).

The Courier-Journal has since passed out of the hands of the Binghams and into the control of one of the newspaper chains, and has lost some prestige.

Nonetheless, it is a fine old paper. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but I still rank it above the typical "home town newspaper."
