Louisville Courier Journal ^ | 4/2/03 | Mark Coomes

[snip]They said they often heard the screams of other prisoners being tortured and saw some with their eyes and faces bloodied and swollen.

''There were beatings and torture going on outside our cells, in the corridor, literally,'' McAllester said. Other inmates hobbled around, apparently because the soles of their feet had been burned or otherwise injured.

from the story:

>>> ''Normally Molly is a very ebullient person,'' he said. ''I can't remember when I've ever heard her sound exactly the way she did today.'' <<<

Can't imagine why....
Could she have seen something that made her eyes open to the inhumanity people are capable of?

As an aside, I would bet this "Gore supporter" in the past week had a Damascus Road conversion away from the Democrat Talking Points!

I hope she gives Al Goore a call. He spent yesterday defending the Dixie Chicks.

The Binghams are an intesting family there is a book about them by Alex Jones. I wonder if that is the same Alex Jones that is at Harvard?

Probably. They're all Ivy League, old money. Some are quite nuts (of course, when we talk about rich nuts, we just call them "eccentric", LOL).

OK..it's conspiracy time.

Why/How would Arafat know that Molly was there? How/Why did Arafat speak on these specific journalist behalf? Did anyone from the States notify Arafat to help out?

The fact that she was an AlGore lacky reeks with Dem/Arafat coziness..Why oh why...I hope someone finds out WHO tipped off Arafat..could it be a Hillary connection?

Arafat did not do this on his own...someone nudged him to help.

I suspect that her view has changed.

If the past week's detention hasn't "changed her view," she's truly beyond hope.

Bingham's safe passage was due in great part to her wealthy connections to the democratic power structure.

Those dead U.S. POW's weren't as fortunate.

She has an opportunity now to tell the truth about what she witnessed and set the record straight, minus politics.

What she does with that opportunity will be her measure as a human being.

Been there myself. Turn on the TV, start at Channel 2 and work my way to the end.

At times I am stunned by what I see and hear. Are the pundits that stupid, are the truly evil, do they ever go back and watch the tape of their shows?

At the end of the day I am still shaking my head, sometimes in puzzlement but often in fury.

They hate us, they really really do.

A coupla things...

1. Thinking that Newsday reporters could be spies for the US proves once again how stupid the Iraqis really are.

2. Newsday must have some great connection to Arafat and his gang...no surprise there.

3. You will not read the part about the torture in Newsday istelf.

From the article: Asked if her recent ordeal might prompt a career change, her father said, ''I hope she becomes a photographer for the fashion industry.'' Perhaps this brave woman can report on the 'cocaine wars' within the fashion industry? Glad she made it out of Baathist clutches, alive.

The Courier-Journal was formerly one of the better newspapers in the Republic. I remember a Time / Newsweek article on newspapers back in the early '70s which dicussed the second tier of newspapers (the first tier would have been the NY Times, Wash Post, and Chicago Tribune then), and the Courier-Journal was in the ten papers of that second tier (along with such worthies as the Wall Street Journal).

The Courier-Journal has since passed out of the hands of the Binghams and into the control of one of the newspaper chains, and has lost some prestige.

Nonetheless, it is a fine old paper. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but I still rank it above the typical "home town newspaper."
