SADDAM AND SONS ON TV

Iraqi television has shown footage of Saddam Hussein alongside his two sons.

He was seen in military uniform at a meeting of his top commanders.

It was the first time Saddam's eldest son, Uday, had been seen on video since the war began on March 20.

But it was not clear when the footage was taken.

Meanwhile, huge explosions have again rocked central Baghdad, sending clouds of smoke skywards around the presidential Old Palace compound near the Tigris River.

Earlier, warplanes and cruise missiles pounded the same compound, targeting a palace used by Saddam's younger son, Qusay.

Coalition bombers - including long-range B-1s, B-52s and B-2 "stealth" aircraft working together for the first time - pounded a string of targets in the city.

The US Defence Department said the air strikes had caused "a very significant weakening" of Iraqi forces.

And Iraqi commanders were moving Guard troops around to shore up their strength.

Also, Pentagon spokeswoman Tori Clarke said US officials had seen evidence that members of Saddam's family, and the families of senior Iraqi officials, had tried to flee the country.

When pressed for details she would not elaborate.

"We have seen some reports recently and I'll leave it at that," she said.

I can't believe they would all three be in the same room during the war. It must be old.

They obviously keep a supply in their bunker along with a staff to keep them cleaned and pressed.

Those would be the military advisors from France.

But it was not clear when the footage was taken.

If Saddam wanted to reassure "his people" that he's still alive, he could certainly do so. I understand his reluctance to go on live TV, but a taped appearance with a newspaper dated within the last couple of days would do the trick. The lack of such a move makes me wonder...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And now, a little levity for those who haven't heard it:
Saddam's Vice President called a meeting of all of Saddam's doubles. He informed the doubles that Saddam was still alive. They cheered robustly. "But the bad news," said the Vice President, "is that he had lost an arm."
What isn't being reported is what Saddam and his sons were discussing on the tape. I find the absence of that info curious. Unless, of course, they were simply planning yet another fun-filled dinner party for their special pal, Peter Arnett...
Dead, totally dead. That is my guess,
My guess is not quite dead. The uncertainty about his ultimate survival is the only thing keeping the Iraqis in play. They can't make a decision to fold or fight.
Didn't we all expect canned answers to our questions?
Saddam does not have any time for war, for he is entertaining his 72 virgins, and all he asks for, is that some one please send Viagra, and just poke some down in the hole that the bomb made.
*LOL* Very good.
But I still think she avoids saying anything at all when she does get a straight question.
But it was not clear when the footage was taken.
Have you noticed how relaxed they always seem (except for the first night)?
I think if I was fighting for my life, I would look a little more concerned.
Is that Orrielay Uday you are talking about? If so, her boyfriend would not appreciate it.
On a more serious note.
I read somewhere
that earlier footage
showing Saddam meeting with his henchmen
was positively identified
as being old footage
made before the war began.
Does anyone have more information on this?
The local PBS station ran a video of Elvis the other night.
Now that Saddam has proved the technology, does that mean the the King lives??
