Yellow Ribbon Germany
Welcome to Yellow Ribbon Germany! This website mainly addresses the German public, therefore (at least for the moment) we will only provide a brief English summary. Yellow Ribbon Germany takes up the American tradition of support to the servicemen and women serving to protect freedom and democracy worldwide. Our government and a large portion of the media oppose the American efforts to end the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. We do not share this view and support our American friends. For all the Germans who still value the transatlantic friendship and who are ready and willing to fight the enemies of freedom we sat up this webpage.
To express their solidarity with the United States of America visitors are invited to sign our list.
United we stand!

You really need to check out the Canadian and Norwegian versions of the same effort. The Canadian one is quite active with discussion groups and they are promoting some "support America" rallies in various places. It's very heart warming.

German youth have forgotten that the freedoms they use and abuse was purchased for them by the blood of American soldiers. They did not do anything to earn that freedom.

Great find.....we got one going here as well.
Please wear a yellow ribbon,
And tie one to a tree,
In support of the soldiers
Who insure our liberty.

Thanks for letting us know about this, Mr. M! It's heartening to know that the sacrifices Americans have made for Europe have not been completely forgotten.

Good catch!
What's the chance of inviting a few of these Euro conservatives, to FR? Their take on Chirac, Schroeder etc, has never been more needed.

I had the following email exchange with the site:
Yellow Ribbon Germany:
Danke Schoen! Thank you for your support of America as we attempt to protect ourselves and the free world from the menace of Islamo-facism, supported by Saddam and his chemical weapons.
I am an American of many generations. My long American family history includes many English and German names. I was profoundly disappointed at the German government's lack of support for America, and for its fomenting of anti-American sentiment among the German populace.
It is a great relief for me to see that some of the people of Germnay support us in our hour of need. If only you could come here and live among us! I am sure you love your own country as much as I love mine, but sometimes I wish that those who support us could come here and live in our nation and we could ship the ugly communist war protestors in our nation to France.
I know this is only a fantasy, but it warms my heart to know at least some of my ethnic kin are on my side.
Danke Schoen!

Their Reply
Dear friends, during the last couple of days we received such a number of mails that I am unfortunatelly unable to answer them all personally. Sorry for that.
There is, however, one thing which goes out to all of you in the US. Many, many of your mails were to thank us for our website. I am almost a bit ashamed because of that. This website is so little compared to what your nation did and is doing at the moment for the great cause of democracy and freedom. So I believe it's really on us to thank you.
I honestly don't understand my government or my fellow countrymen who seem to care more about the wording of UN resolutions and the well-being of a wicked dictator than about the life of the oppressed Iraqi people.
Our thoughts and feelings are with all the Americans, especially with your brave soldiers and their families. May G-D bless and protect them!
Greetings from the freedom loving side of Germany,
W K (note: I witheld the name to save the author possible trouble)

Wow! Nice e-mail by you and nice reply by them. It gets me choked up to see people like that who are going against the grain in expressing support for the US and the coalition.

There is, it seems, a page with a couple of discussion groups on it, that comes from France too! It's called: "The Dissident Frogman", (I think)! From the looks of it, it's somewhat like "Free Britannia", or even "Free Republic"!
It's run by a person who was born in France in 1967 or '68. Most of it is in French, but the forum has some people who write in English. I wondered if there were secretly some French people who support America and its coalition members, but it's good to see it in print!
It says on its Homepage, that they support the Americans, Brits, and the Spanish, but also mentions the other coalition members. Also, there are pictures of our flag, the British flag, and Spanish flag. This site is a great find! At least it seems there are French people supporting the coalition members!

Thank you so much for what you have done. I gave up 3 years of my youth to be there as a member of the 3d Armored Division during the 70's. I have been shocked by the way our countries have been so divided over this issue. The United Nations has turned into a sham. Libya is in charge of human rights violations this year, Iraq is in charge of disarmerment. As a world, we should all be ashamed of not supporting the Iraqi people when they revolted. The man has murdered "hundreds" of thousands of people and we all stood by and did nothing. Things like this make me ashamed to be a member of the human race some days.

Knowing you used to live in Germany, I thought you'd be interested in this website I posted about 2 days ago.
