Second Rally for America in New Orleans Area (with Photos)

A crowd of flag-waving patriots participated in a second Rally for America in the New Orleans area on Sunday afternoon at the Korean Monument park on the median across from the Lakeside Shopping Center mall in Metairie, LA.

This rally was identified as an “informal” Rally for America, and is a followup to our hugely successful Rally for America on March 21st at a park in Kenner, LA. (Huge Turnout for New Orleans Area "Rally for America"). Photos of the first rally can be seen at Photos from New Orleans Area Rally for America on March 21st.

Patriot1 (Margaret Baird) and I felt that we needed to continue to be visible in support of our troops, our President, and our great country. We therefore decided that we were going to have “informal” Rallies for America every Sunday from 4 to 5 PM in the park across from Lakeside Shopping Center, until we take control of the government in Iraq, and our heroic troops start coming home. These informal rallies will consist of a prayer for our troops, the Pledge of Allegiance, a few words about the purpose of the rally, patriotic music, patriotic signs, and lots of flag-waving and horn-honking.

Although we didn’t get permission to use the park until Friday morning, we managed to spread the word about the rally to enough people in two days to attract a substantial crowd. We expect to have larger crowds as the word spreads about our rallies.

Our favorite State Representative, Steve Scalise, participated in the rally and said a few words to the cheering crowd. Steve is in the photo below in the red shirt, and Patriot1 is in the middle.

Since this was a flag-waving, “HONK TO SUPPORT OUR TROOPS” type rally, everyone attending the rally was energized by the constant honking of support. In fact, the honking was so loud, we couldn’t even hear the prayer, which was led by local VFW Commander, Walter Hogan, using a bullhorn.

Two TV stations, the local FOX affiliate and the local ABC affiliate, covered the rally and interviewed some of the attendees. I just saw the coverage of the rally on the 9 PM FOX news, and it was outstanding!

Each of these rally events brings us into contact with some wonderful people. One of the attendees told us that her son is in combat in Iraq at the present time, and she took numerous photos, which she plans on sending him to let him know about the strong support here in America for our troops. Another young man said that he had just volunteered for military service and will be going to boot camp in May. Still another young man was so inspired by the rally that he offered to help us with a new and better website, which he will provide us for free. So many of the attendees were profusive in their thanks to us for having these rallies, since they are so happy to have an outlet to show support for our troops. They are going to help us spread the word for future rallies.

Patriot1 and I promised the rally attendees that as soon as our troops start coming home, we are going to have a huge “Heroes’ Rally” to honor our heroic young men and women, who put their lives on the line to protect us and our great country. This will be an extravaganza even better than our March 21st Rally for America!

I guess us Arizona Freepers need to take up a collection and send dittomom to the next rally in New Orleans.

Note the patriotic Mardi Gras beads... ;)
