BEIRUT, Lebanon, March 28 (UPI) --
Iraqi commander Ali Hassan al-Majeed ordered seven Baath officials in Basra executed on charges of "treason," Lebanon's al-Mustaqbal newspaper reported Friday.

The newspaper also said al-Majeed dismissed the Baath party leader and replaced the military commander.

I suggest you get a sense of sarcasm, it's like humor but with a twist.

I wonder who has killed more Iraqis, us or them?

Undoubtedly, them. I for one support the Iraqis in this effort to kill their own sadistic, brutal pigs. It takes those out of the fight, and gives us fewer that we have to handle on our own.

The fratricide starts. It is slow, but will roll like a snowball before this is done.

Just like the end of NAZI Germany.

'Let's just pray they were none of our intelligence assets. Saddam may have found out who tipped us off for that decapitation bombing...'

Let's hope we planted some fake evidence pointing to another worthless POS :o)

I doubt that person is in Basra. This story say all seven Baath party members executed were in Basra. Sounds like it will be a blood Baath.

My guess is the "executed" ones were actually KIA by the Coalition and the "dismissed" were actually taken PsOW. They would rather say they got rid of them than admit that we did it.

That was my first thought as well....

Let's just pray they were none of our intelligence assets.

Let us pray that our intelligence people have planted false leads all over the place and that Saddam is killing his own.

I'll add this - in the cities, fresh produce is gone, power generation and water is spotty, and the numbers of people going to work are likely down below 40%. The Dinar is probably next to worthless, a big percentage of government offices are gone, and LEO communications are ragtag, not to mention huge gaps in the military comm net. Temps are going up, and as people get more desperate, they'll abandon the concept of fanatic resistance to invaders as they notice their stock of canned food and bagged grains diminishing. On top of that, each RPG round that gets fired means one more is spent and will not be replaced - each vehicle blown up is irrevocably gone - each officer or EM with talent that dies, gets wounded or is captured means another precipitous drop in the trained replacement pool - each gallon of fuel used is harder and harder to replace.

I'm not going to say it is going to be ridiculously short, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm not going to say it will be short--but it will be swift, in the sense that the endgame will come very suddenly. It might hit so swiftly that our troops will be massively surprised--and not 100% prepared to deal with the sudden shift in their role.

That's right...Didn't the Brits raid Baath HQ is Basra and kill 8 party members last week, and capture one? This is a pathethic attempt at spin.

It seems to be a new battleground strategy: an internal war of attrition.

Of course it is. They can't let similar type leaders in other cities know what really happened, otherwise they will fear the same thing happening to them, and would be liable to surrender at the first opportunity. This "spin" is designed to keep them from doing that and to make them think that they have more to fear from them than from the Coalition. It's more intimidation.

Oh, I'm quite familiar with sarcasm (check out many of my own posts, for example). But in a world where people commonly say the most idiotic things in all seriousness, how are we to distinguish the stupid from the sarcastic (in a text medium with no verbal cues)?

As Fran Lebowitz once said, "no matter how cynical you get, it's hard to keep up".
