NY Magazine: Top Black General Worthless
March 27, 2003
Brigadier General Vincent Brooks faces some outrageous and stupid questions at his daily Central Command briefings. Some of them deserve to be answered dead on, but because of political correctness and diplomacy and all that, CENTCOM can't always do that. I can, which is why I sometimes answer these questions in a mock briefing. On Thursday, I focused on a question by New York magazine's Michael Wolff.
Wolff said: "I mean no disrespect by this question, but I want to ask about the value proposition of these briefings. We're no longer being briefed by senior-most officers." The press pool applauded the question, which drew a rapier-quick response from Brooks who said, "I've gotten applause already. That's wonderful. I appreciate that."
Can you believe the audacity of complaining that Brigadier General Brooks isn't good enough for the press? If this had been a reporter from a conservative news source, the press would point out the fact that Brooks just happens to be the only African-American general on the scene. Charges of racism would be made, because this question's underlying meaning is clearly that Brooks can't possibly know anything.
This war is not about Michael Wolff's stupid stories in New York magazine. It's about saving lives, including his. This is not a criticism of General Schwarzkopf, but the leader of this Gulf War, General Tommy Franks, isn't going to be out there talking to these people every day. He's busy picking out targets and protecting our soldiers. By the way, Donald Rumsfeld nominated Brooks for appointment to the rank of brigadier general in June 2002. Just another example - like Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas and Condoleezza Rice - of African-Americans advancing more under GOP administrations than Democratic ones.

This war is not about Michael Wolff's stupid stories...Just how many clymers are out there?
To: Libloather
This question by the jerk-off Michael Wolff was unquestionably stupid.
And General Brooks' answer was right on...
After his remark about the applause, Brooks told Wolff, in a nutshell, that if he didn't think that the briefings were of value, he could step off.
Right on General Brooks!

It's like I've always said...when a Black person is either a Republican, and works for or supports a Republican administration, the Left considers him an Uncle Tom. That's why I no longer can stomach the Democratic Party.

FOX News showed that exchange today on
Special Report with Britt Hume.
Wolff's question was just as oafish, and the B.G. Brooks' response was just as witty as related above.

I couldn't believ this when I first heard it. I thougt it had to be a spoof or something. These smarmy, self righteous a$$holes in the CentCom press pool are disgusting. This guy Wolf needs a swift kick in the ass.

I saw that! I couldn't believe what a complete a-hole Wolff was. Brooks didn't do the little dance Wolff 'directed' him to so Wolff got huffy. Can't have the black general getting all uppity now can we. Shame on Wolff. (I get this magazine and am constantly amazed at the stupidity that is Wolff (I got a years subscription deal for 10bucks, sue me))

The General is the most impressive spokesperson for the military we've seen to date. That he was insulted in this manner is beyond belief and I do hope that General Franks does not allow Wolf or anyone else from the magazine to attend any further briefings.
Wolf had much more to say than the snippet Rush is reporting. He went on to ask of what use is the million dollar press building. A few more gratuitous insults were thrown in.
To: wardaddy
Basically the officer in question side stepped a rather tacky question and the liberal reporter got in a huff. But we knew liberals were all racist didn't we?
To: Libloather
I really like General Brooks. I loved his comment that, if they didn't think it was worth their time to attend the briefings, it was their call to leave (paraphrase).

When a journalist says "I mean no disrespect by this question...," you can be damn sure that disrespect was intended. Time to embed said journalist in Iraq. With a name like Wolff, he should be quite popular as a jewish target for the Iraqis that he apparently holds in high regard.

It's kind of like this French jackass Chirac wanting to hear it in the UN from the President and not Colin Powell.
To: Libloather
I saw this exchange.
Wolff is an elitist pig of a liberal, he should be placed in Saddam's plastic shredder, clymer first.
To: Libloather
'Worthless' is Rush's word, not the reporter's. Rush's charge is weak.

Brooks is G3 Director for Franks (Ops?) and has gotten pretty good at handling the press. Personally I love the fact that he told them they could all leave if they wanted to.
This is a damn war, not a hosted party for journalists salivating over the thought of an American military disaster.

And after the first year, don't bother renewing the subscription or paying - they'll keep sending it to you for nothing (boosts their circulation statistics and ad revenues).
