Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Nam Vet got a question?
My dad was in the 1st Cav division in Vietnam from 67-72 I believe. I was born 68, so he was over there when I was born. Dad didn't talk much about it, however there were time he told me he was in Cambodia. anyway, he never told me about "Operation Phenix".....do you know anything about this mission?

So why in the hell was this military analyist on Sky saying that Rummy said the "war would last 6 days" as if it were fact! The guy went on that Rummy must be held accountable to his 6 day stand!

Both David Bloom and Kerry Sanders broadcast over cam #6. I'm not sure if they are in the same units, though.
To: Nam Vet
There must be answers to these pressing questions, but darned if I know them!

Prez: Committed to helping Iraqis over long term...applied combined powers to the cause of justice...doing so today...our alliance is strong, our resolve is strong>
Tony: thanking Prez for leadership...to the American people, on behalf of British people, offers condolences to American fallen...just into a week of this conflict let me repeat our complete and total resolve...Saddamn will be removed...WMDs removed...Iraqi people to be freed...that is our resolve...in less than week, have secured oil wealth...forces within 50 miles of B-dad...surrounded Basra...port secured...
Praising coalition forces...professionalism...day by day we see the reality of Saddamn's brutality...if need more evidence of Saddamn's depravity...act of cruelty beyond comprehension

There's a major firefight just over the horizon from whoever is on MSNBC #6...

Tactics ALWAYS change as soon as the enemy is engaged! Every War plan must be modified as the war progresses. Claiming, oh no, we must change our plans is nothing more than fear-mongering (our military is failing!!!)
As to S&A, we have indeed shown the military the uselessness of resistence. However, if you knew that your family would be executed if you or your unit surrendered, would you?
To: Peach
Good analysis, but I disagree. We'll know by the end of the weekend if I'm wrong, though.

"It is a hornet's nest right now. There is nothing subtle about it," General Leaf told the New York Times. I'd say that, if this were a hornet's nest before, it is now reduced to the status of mosquitoes. A mosquito killed Alexander the Great. The real danger has not passed...

Those two British soldiers that AJ showed dead were executed by the Iraqis ....Blair just said..

Old Europe is done. USA, UK, and Australia. Poland. And a few other countries -- that's the side of good. There is a side of evil. The rest of the world blows with the wind.

NOBODY here or anywhere else can tell you what the psychological impact of S&A was on the inhabitants of Iraq--except the inhabitants.
And they are not talking to the US press, for obvious reasons.
As to the RG and other elements which maintain the fight: what else would you do? They will get shot by the regime if they surrender---and they may still think that the Alliance is trying to "take their homeland."
Unlike Frenchmen, SOME people don't like it when somebody tries to "take their homeland..."
To: Dog
Blair's speech is excellent for the American public to hear. He speaks truths and complete, sometimes specific details about what's going on. It's great that we can Hear from him
