Multiple ^ | 25 March 2003 | Various

Posted on 03/24/2003 8:59:27 PM PST by An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Government officials sometimes have to met with heads of state and government who aren't very nice.

I'm sure Bill Clinton never met any dirt bags.

I don;t think those shots are from Leaventhal's unit, but rather a generic mix match of clips Fox does a tight loop of. Typical cheap production that Fox is famous for, use the same loop over and over for half a day. You can often tell when these channels have producers change shifts. I'm not impressed with this producer, rather annoying when the turn up the sound of the video clip which has very little to do with Leaventhal's reporting. Probably a producer with the philosophy that every viewer has a 3 year old's attention span.

But I digress...

Maybe the military should just put the special ignition switch in like James Bond had in one of his cars. When someone else tried to start it up, KABOOM

There would be a MASSIVE civil war amongst them if that happened. Originally, there were several versions of the Koran (some much "softer" than others), but some iman had all but the current version destroyed.

Well, the liberals loved Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Ortega, etc.

At least we conservatives admit our past actions and move on...the libs don't. They still deny the horrors committed by those mentioned above.

We may want to keep the Kurds and Turks seperated. Are you serious about the freaking Ghurkas? Those guys are brutal.

Brits don't go anywhere without the Ghurkas. When they ran into them in the jungle the first time and almost got annihilated by them for trying to move through their position the Brits went around but later made friends with them. Good idea.

Magnesium is hard and light weight, that is why it is used in a helicopter.

I just remember playing around with thermite back before I joined the Army. In the Artillery, you would use it to destroy a howitzer tube. It burns very hot and will melt steel, but I was curious how you used it on a helicopter.

Duh, Magnesium is how you ignite the other two ingredients of thermite.

Yes. It was called Kut-al-Amera then and the British fought a battle there in September/October 1915.

Looks like we may be carpet bombing the RG units. The reporter seems to be describing an Arclight.

I wonder if Islam will ever go through a reformation as christianity did.

I doubt it - or I least not anytime in the near future. Serious Islamic reformers tend to end up dead. The core Islamic groups don't play nice.

The sad part is that one would think that Islam in America would be tempered by a democratic society. The lack of an American Islamic response of outrage, or at least a definate disavowal, after 9/11 and before this war leads me to believe that a 'kinder, gentler' Islam is not going to happen.
