Los Angeles Chapter FRN (HRF) - Rallys for America at the Oscars
FrnLa | 03/23/2003 | DoughtyOne

Posted on 03/23/2003 10:26:59 PM PST by DoughtyOne

The Hollywood Resistance Force was out in strength today Sunday, March 23, 2003.

Along with around three to five hundred other conservatives, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Free Republic Network made sure Michael Moore (or less) had to pass by fourteen hundred United States flags on the way in to receive his Oscar.  Every leftist who sputtered nonsense from the podium, had to pass us by.  We waved our flags and shouted Liberate Iraq, Free the Iraqis, L - A - P - D (a supportive chant for the Los Angeles Police Department officers on site) and other phrases sure to make leftists melt like a vampire in the presence of garlic.

Our local Vice-President and Public Relations Officer RonDog (Ron Smith) arranged this event, and did us proud.  Ron teamed us up with Fit Aim Act, the Liberty Belles, and representatives from other organizations for which I'll be kicking myself in the morning for not remembering now.  Ron will be by to supplement this report anyway.  He'll be sure to credit everyone who participated.

Ted Hayes did an excellent job of fielding interviews from a conservative point of view.  Ted is with Fit Aim Act, and knows his way around the public relations maze.  His burden is homeless advocacy, but Ted is well grounded on many conservative issues and it's a pleasure to listen to him present his views.  When you do, you'll find yourself saying "all right" or "Yes!" over and over again.  You just can't help it.

Folks, this event was a public relations gold mine for our chapter.  Every local media outlet seemed to be on site.  BobJ arrived earlier than I did, so he can tell you the orgs he ran into.  I say the Los Angeles Times people, several, and several radio stations.  I turned on the Oscar coverage on E early this afternoon and there was BobJ standing next to Ted Hayes on the E-Channel.  Bob, wearing his free republic hat, was a walking billboard for our cause.  You can't buy coverage like that.

I am told that wire service photos already exist on the forum, showing our group at the Oscars.  Excellent.  After all, we were there to liberate Oscar!

We were one half block from the entrance to the Oscars.  All limos passed our location.  I saw at least one vehicle with nothing but thumbs up, headed towards the Oscars.  Love it!

We made a number of new friends through this event.  Other groups we networked with were great.  Other individuals who were simply sick and tired of the leftists that seek to speak for us, and showed up on their own, were glad to find us there.

We had one special guest show up.  I know you'll find it hard to believe, so did we.  Look closely, you'll see who it is.

Click for a larger version.

Yep, like I said, we were shocked too.  He waved a flag, joined us in chants and was particularly good on one that said, "We support the President!" and took time to give us his private eMail, so he could join us on our next FReep.

Folks, we had an excellent time.  Like other FReeps, we had dinner afterwards.  There we discussed this event, and our plans for future activities.  RonDog made a presentation on future plans.  For the folks we'd met today, that knew nothing about FRee Republic before this, I gave a two or three minute overview of FRee Republic and Free Republic Network.  When I mentioned there was a sight out there where between 750 and 1250 articles from around the world were posted every day, and explained that they would find other conservatives they could discuss issues with, they said, "Wow!"  Yep, that about sums it up.

What a day.  Thanks RonDog.  Thanks Ted Hayes.  Thanks Free Republic Network.  You each did us proud.

More photos will follow.  Some video clips will too.

Drop back in.  It'll seem like you were there.

Those who attended today, Please add in your comments.  I'd love to read them.  FRee Republic and FRee Republic Network rock!

Great! BTW - You should have the Rally list, you might want to compare it with the photos you have and see who hasn't chimed in yet.

There were only 3 or 4 that were a problem. Things got dicey a few times, but there were no fisticuffs.

BTW - When i was walking down the street handing out flags, there was this one old, ugly bunghole wearing what looked like a 1700's red British soldier coat. When I offered him a flag he said "What? To wipe my ass with"? I almost went medieval on his ass right then. He eventually came over to our side of the street and then kept his mouth shut, frickin' commie coward. I pointed him out as one to watch and was waiting for him to pipe up...there would have been real anarchy in LA in Sunday.

I was there too, the short red faced kid with the curly red hair seemed the only extreamly upset one, but don't be intimidated by peace protestors (a true-ism Bush has lived by), especially with all the cops around and being outnumbered. By their very nature they are all bark. I argued with a number of them and won ever time. It was a substative arguement, we were speaking to specific points about the 17 UN resolutions and the resumption of hostilities, but it was still an arguement. I got blank looks of total uncertainty and fear. They would walk away dumbfounded, I wish I had it on film.

Not all were unreasonable, I talked with the nerdy looking guy with the flag tie at the end and he seemed to be rather reasonable when I countered him with facts, he thought finding WMD's would weaken his opposition to the war. That should be answered within a week.

Contrast the demeanor of the LAPD officers at OUR location with considerably more serious riot gear and helmets with face shields worn by their comrades unfortunate enough to be assigned to the BAD guys rally, in the FULL size image of that picture posted on la.indymedia.org.
Note also the clenched FISTS of many in the peaceful "anti-war" crowd...

A great time was had by all. I concur with all of the reports made so far. I would also like to add my .02 about Ted Hayes. I was about 4 or 5 feet from Ted when he was interveiwed by E- TV, he did an outstanding job of presenting the conservative opinion and is very media savy (sp.?) Some of the other press reporters that were there that I have not seen mentioned were a representative of the Netherlands press. He interviewed a gentleman that was part of our support group, A fella with red hair, but Im sorry, I can't remember his name. He did a fine job of explaining some of our veiws. USA Today was also there, and he took some photos of us and asked some of us for our name, age and city we are from. I managed to get in a plug for FP when telling him I am a Long Beach menber of the Free Republic. Folks, this was one fun day we had. Ron must have a lot of energy, by the end of the day I was too pooped to attend the gathering for dinner. I met a lot of other freepers, Aloha Ron, Ron Dog, Bella Bru, David and many many others. All great people, my apologies to all others that I can't recall just now. Also, there were many other fellow vets. The guy in some of the pictures that is wearin a brown T-shirt and waving a large American flag is currently on active duty in the Army. One other side note. Our group got a lot of thumbs up from the cars arriving for the Oscars. These were the working people in show business, not the limo crowd. One other little side note. You could tell that the police really appreciated the "Supports our Troops" crowd. I overheard one cop telling another, "these people are great, we need more like em". It was really a wonderful day, Just AHHHH-SOME................. 4urdobservr

"I think I saw a Big quote from Ron in this mornings LA times.
Lots of coverage of the pro troops rally too. I was surprised. Good article on the editorial page by David Frum too on how the Democratic Party is going to destroy themselves by aligning with the leftists."

Thanks for posting this! That is one editorial I'm going to read!
