Troop Prayer Thread 3

Posted on 03/23/2003 9:08:38 PM PST by TEXOKIE

A number of us have recently decided to form an active prayer circle here to pray for our Troops. We have many fine young men and women known to us here at FreeRepublic.com serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Airforce and Coast Guard. Several on our troop list to date actually are registered in the forum, and have become known to us personally among the constellation of Freepers.

If you would like to submit someone for our list, you are welcome to do so at any time. Post their name or pseudonym here on the thread or freepmail amom or myself. If we have made any errors, please let us know so that we may correct the list. We will be making periodic updates.

We invite everyone, active Freepers and Lurkers alike to join our circle in prayer for these fine men and women who have volunteered to place their lives on the line for the defense of our nation and for the liberation of the oppressed peoples of other nations. To them we send our greatest respect and gratitude. We send them our prayers and good thoughts. We ask for God's blessing upon them and their families.

For those of us who have somewhat limited computer capacity, we request that graphics be limited to pictures of loved ones for whom we are offering prayers, special visuals that seem particularly approprieate, and non-moving graphics. Thank you.

ROFL...had not seen the distinction, FM!! But truly all Bombship goes to amom! She's the one who has been getting all square-eyed putting the list together.

* * *

I just had communication from amom and I was telling her that I was giving all Bombship over to her....but she insists that she doesnt want it either. So maybe we're stuck being the co-Bombs? co-Bombettes?

* * *

AND.....just got another communication from amom....she reminds me that the real BOMB (BOMBETTE?) in all of this is actually YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS! We blame HER for getting this all started. SHE'S the BOMB!!! (And she's also not here to refuse it!!! :-)

We join you in finding solice in this thread among our many friends here who are helping in the burden sharing. (((HUGS)))

We are happy to add to our list
Alexis Lankford HHC, 1-63 Armor, 173d Airborne Brigade,
Heather Lankford Ballone, 1245th Transportation Company
Clayton Lankford, 2-118th Infantry

Our Father in Heaven,
We are grateful to learn of the commitment to this nation and the holy cause of Freedom of this family. We pray that these young people entering into battle will be surrounded by as many legions of angels as is required to keep them safe, secure, and victorious. Grant their families peace and sure knowledge that their precious sons and daughters, their greatest treasure, is in your loving care and attention.

We ask that our prayers will serve as an additional layer of kevlar over them. Clear the way before them as they encounter danger and let them be guided by you in their actions under stress so that the enemy actions cannot find them. This which we call forth for these young people and their families, we call forth for all our troops and their loved ones. We are grateful Lord, in a paraphrase of the words of our President this day, that Liberty has found such brave defenders.
Amen

Thank you for bringing to our list Cpl Pablo Gabriel Alarcon, USMC Kuwait.

Our Father in Heaven,

We place before your our Cpl Pablo Gabriel Alarcon, USMC. We are grateful for his service to our nation and to the holy cause of Freedom. His very name brings to mind the glorious Archangel Gabriel. We thank you Father for sending this angel to your beloved Mary, the mother of Jesus. We ask that you will send Archangel Gabriel to overshadow his namesake on the field of battle. Preserve him and protect him with our prayers and your impenetrable Love. Guide, guard, direct and protect him and his buddies. Bring them through this conflict and back home in safety and Victory.

Surround Pablo's girlfriend, family, and friends while he is away. Reassure them, bless them, and comfort them that you are in charge of everything and that only your will can and will be done in his life. We thank you for hearing us and we praise you for the Vision that this young man and his family have for this nation and the oppressed people of Iraq. Father, while you are answering our prayers for Pablo and his loved ones, please multiply this prayer to extend to all of our troops and their families.
Amen

Thank you for leading us in the Psalm reading of 3:5-8 on behalf of the ones on your updated list of the captured/MIAs.

We join you in relief that the official capture list has not grown.

Our Father,
We pray that those who may not be captured may somehow be mobile and able to evade capture and return to our lines safely. Make them invisible if they are injured so that the enemy may not see them, but make them highly visible to their comrades who are trying to find them. We pray that in any case, you will protect and stand beside each and every one of these precious soldiers throughout their entire ordeal. We pray for and expect miracles to be done according to thy will and by thy grace, for these are your precious children and we know that you hold them dear. We remember and lift up their families and loved ones in prayer and seek grace for them as well. Amen.

Follow-up-to-amom's-report-ping:

WOW Thanks for posting the link to that fabulous report, AMOM!!

HEY BOYS AND GIRLS, THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT THE PRAYER BULLETS ARE FOR!!! :-)

Our Father,

We are SO GRATEFUL to see the evidence of your miraculous intercession in the life of this precious British soldier!

We thank you for the invention of kevlar and the other equipment which our troops have at their disposal. Father, while we are grateful for the miracle of the modern technology you have released to us, we are mindful that only your hand and will decides the final outcome of battle. We are given to believe that somehow our prayers are part of the equation in how things will turn out. Let our prayers be like votes to affirm that only your will can and will be done on the field of battle. Protect these fine young people.

Trusting that it is the case that you hear our prayers, Father, we ask that you will strengthen each and every piece of equipment with a layer of impenetrable Light substance which will render the helmets, vests, boots, masks, enviro suits, armor, and all live-preserving equipment invulnerable to stray bullets, chemicals, or pathogens. Father, we pray above all that you will intercede and bind any and all attempts or plans to use any kind of weapon of mass destruction. But if the enemy does use them, render our troops invulnerable to them. We call this forth not only for our troops in Iraq, but for our troops subject to terrorist attack in Afghanistan or anywhere else in the world where we and our allies have troops posted.

Father, we do place our troops and their equipment in your mighty hands and we are grateful that you are mindful of each and every dear soul in coalition service. Amen

I want to encourage the various communities to do what we have been lead to do in Fredericksburg Va. As Civil Ways buffs know, our community was impacted some 140 years ago.

In the past years, we have served as a bedroom community to both the Marine Headquarters at Quantico, and Washington DC.

We have a public site where families in the community post names and photos of service personnel. We pray from Noon - 1230 pm, and again 7-7:30pm Mon-Fri. The meeting is well attended.

Prayers flow from field to Iraq By Jon Ward THE WASHINGTON TIMES

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A nondescript field bordered by a shopping mall and gas station has become a center of strength and hope for residents who come here to pray for American troops and the Iraqi people, and to ask God to change the heart of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

"We lift them up before you, so many men and women who have answered the call to duty," the Rev. Gary Staddan of First Christian Church prayed yesterday. "We pray that they would be honorable in all they do and would return to their families in the not-too-distant future."

This was the second day of prayer at the corner of Carl D. Silver Parkway and Fall Hill Avenue, which Mr. Staddan and the group have named Prayer Point.

Though the spot is little more than a barren lot with a well-constructed bulletin board for posting pictures of troops and a large white sign with red letters, area church leaders and residents say they hope the prayers said there have a spiritual effect.

"I know it's the Lord's will that they not perish," said Vietnam veteran David Hertle, 55, whose wife, Deborah, is a chaplain at a nearby nursing home. "The Scriptures say we have not, because we ask not, and we're asking." Mr. Hertle flew more than 1,500 sorties on a medivac helicopter in Vietnam in 1968. "I know I was able to survive those missions because I had a mom back home praying," he said. "We're out here to pray for the troops and get them back home."

A group of about 15 churches has arranged for one of their leaders to be at the point from noon until 7 p.m. each weekday to lead prayers. Yesterday, the group prayed for each of the seven troops whose name or picture was posted on the board. Group members plan to pray for each soldier, sailor, airman or Marine whose picture is posted on the board, no matter how many are there.

Among those in the group is Kristin Payne, 20. Her husband, Christopher, 22, is in the central Kuwait camp where a U.S. soldier is suspected of throwing two grenades into an officer's planning tent, killing one soldier and injuring 15.

Kristin spotted Prayer Point while she was driving with her mother-in-law, Debra, 41, to the store to buy supplies for her husband. The two were overcome with emotion after posting Christopher's picture on the board and praying with Mr. and Mrs. Hertle.

"It gives me hope," Debra Payne said. "It gives me support that I need desperately. I need to know somebody's backing these guys."

Kristin Payne said, "I know he's got the biggest smile out there, and he's trying to keep up the morale of all the soldiers."

Nicole Lloyd, 21, was there to pray for her brother, Lance Cpl. Isaiah M. Schaffer, 18, who enlisted in the Marines straight out of high school during the summer. Mrs. Lloyd spoke with Mr. Schaffer last week when he was in Bahrain and headed to Iraq with a ground-infantry unit. The picture of Mr. Schaffer, who grew up in Fredericksburg, was the first one placed on the board.

"It's nice that people know he's out there," Mrs. Lloyd said. "With all the anti-war stuff, it's been hard because he felt like he was going over there in vain. We pray that God's angels protect the camp he's in."

There were also prayers yesterday for the president of Iraq. "I lift up Saddam Hussein to you," prayed Kathi Wolf, 51, of Fredericksburg. "You are a mighty God. Change the heart of the deceiver."

Mr. Staddan prayed for the safety of the Iraqi people. "Our country doesn't have a problem with the average person over there," he said.

The Rev. Ernest Custalow of Grace Church, who has organized the efforts to build the bulletin board and staff the prayer times, said people of all faiths are welcome, but that prayers would be offered from a Christian vantage point.

"I hope some soldier will hear about this, then look at his watch and say, 'They're getting ready to pray for me right now.' It'll give them strength and courage," Mr. Custalow said.
