Fort Campbell, Kentucky-AP -- The soldier taken into custody after a grenade attack at a 101st Airborne Division camp in Kuwait has been identified as Sergeant Asan Akbar.
But Army spokesman George Heath says the attack that left one dead and 15 wounded hasn't been linked to Akbar's Islamic faith. And he says the attack won't lead to other Muslims being barred from serving in the U-S military.
Heath says an Islamic chaplain is assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Kuwait. And he says Akbar is being allowed to say his Muslim daily prayers while he's in custody. No charges have been filed yet.

Just repeat the mantra - "Islam is a religion of peace (trans. submission)" - over and over again.
I wouldn't bet a nickle against your prediction...
The Army has a problem ...
The Army is purposely ignoring the problem...
The problem will get worse.
To borrow an appropriate Dickens line, in this instance...
"The army is a ass"
Have a nice day.
If they don't think his muslim "faith" motivated, then just what did? It's been a few days now. Surely he stated WHY he intentionally murdered and wounded his colleagues.
Shhhh ... I bet it IS his muslim faith that motivated him but of course we can't say that hence the silence and confusion on what to do.
A lot has certainly changed with Muslims since the days of Muhammed Ali, a concientious objector on religious grounds.
If he was clearly outspoken about hating Saddam's guts (as some Muslims do because they have enough integrity in the face of Saddam's religious phoniness), maybe it wouldn't be a problem. But how many are? The silence at 9/11 was deafening.
How do you get resentment out of this statement above?
"George Heath, a spokesman for the division's home base at Ft. Campbell, Ky., said Akbar had been "having what some might call an attitude problem." Max Blumenfeld, an Army spokesman in Kuwait City, said the suspect's motive "most likely was resentment."
""It's bad enough we have to worry about enemy forces, but now we have to worry about our own guys," said Spc. Autumn Simmer, 19, who had been sleeping in a row of tents behind those that were attacked."
"Spc. Annushka Albee, 26, who had been sleeping in the same tent as Simmer, said: "He's a Muslim, but he's also a coward. That's a loser for you, wait till people go to sleep and then attack them. He should be a real man and do it face-to-face." "
""He was never a troublemaker," Hasan said. "I'm remembering him as a kid and listening to what he's charged with, and it doesn't compute. It's completely against the character of the person I knew."
"Hasan said Akbar's mother, Quran Bilal, called him from Louisiana on Sunday evening to let him know about the charges against her son."
"A mother knows her son better than anyone and she said, 'They must have gotten the wrong boy,' " Hasan said.
No, she and others saw what they wanted to see. They didn't know the real Akbar. Ah but people love being deceived. It makes em feel good about themselves. Almost forgot, there will conitnue to be no discrimination against Muslims who are "resentful". That kind of discrimination would violent his right to kill or injure us and it is religious, racial profiling.
No, it's evil white European and decendents that find comfort in Christianity. Muslims are "peace loving" people. Besides it's not politically correct to acknowledge differences amongst the various "faiths" out there. Someone might walk away with hurt feelings. No, according to most folks either all religions are basxically the same or this is what happens to people when they become "religious" or "resentful".
Time to be real hereos and send him on his way! Let's do our good deed and usher him into "Paradise" asap.
If anything, his defense will play the insanity / contientious objector line. I can easily see his defense stating that he wanted to "opt out of an unjust war against fellow muslims" and that he felt he persued all possible avenues to avoid killing his bretheren. It will play to the larger world audience but will still buy him a bullet because military criminal justice does not play by the same rules as civil criminal justice.
His conviction will be deserved; however, this may complete his dreams of martyrdom. It will give our foreign and domestic enemies another stone to throw at America. For the suspect and the Muslim world, it is a win-win.
But very little has changed since the days of Muhammad and Ali, who spread their newly "revealed" religion by fire and the sword.
