Merry-Go-Round News. These People Are Repeating the Same C**P over and over
Fox News, but pick any news "source" you want ^

Anyone else getting sick of the "rotation" news on Fox, et al? This stuff is getting as repetetive as a Top 40 pop radio station--the same songs over and over again, repeated every 30 minutes. Rank speculation, dull commentary, same information over and over.
Fox just wasted my time telling me about a "false alarm" in Kuwait. Come on, "journalists"! Don't you all have something news and/or different?
How about some perspective? How about some info about how Saddam came to power? How about something on the culture/history of Iraq? How about some info on Saddam's henchmen? Or would that require some real hard work, also known as "research"?
Hell, it'd be better if you just did a little bit of what C-SPAN does: bring in some newspaper articles, one expert, and take some questions! This round-robin blabbering from Northern Iraq to Southern Iraq to Kuwait to Jordan to the Pentagon to Qatar is all impressive and everything, BUT IT IS ALL THE SAME STUFF OVER AND OVER!!
Cable news viewers, especially hardcore ones, aren't idiots. Give us something substantial.

Sorry for the rant. At least I put it in the vanity column. :)

Show us beating the crap out of some Iraqi thugs.

I agree, but I think it's the inevitable result of "embedding" newsmen in units. As a result, they only report what's in front of their face, instead of the happenings on the rest of the front. The upside is that they are far more careful not to do any Peter Arnett-type anti-American propaganda.

A possible problem in compiling and presenting historical background is that FOX, as a relatively new channel, lacks its own video archive of historical footage, so FOX would have to purchase it.

I have seen some amusing clips, like the one last night where someone apparently had their helmet off and you could hear a muffled but very understandable yell from one of the Marines saying "GET YOUR ****ING HELMET ON" to someone off camera. I'm guessing it was probably one of the journalists.

I've actually thought MSNBC has improved itself and has decent coverage. Fox, I agree, is disapointing. CNN for all its warts and leftist ideology still has a lot of technical ability and sometimes gets the best stories.

If it was a CNN journalist, the Marine should have just kept quiet. One less POS in the world is a good thing.

It's like the last Gulf War, really. If you watch the Pentagon and CENTCOM briefings on C-SPAN, then all you will get from the other networks are photos and live-feeds.

Well, I agree, but remember this:
The average American has the attention span of a toddler.
If FOX says, "Hey, we ran out of war footage; here's the sports wrapup,"
their viewers will click away to other networks.

Since they are not providing the variety, I'd guess it's up to us to provide our own more interesting routine.
We've enjoyed watching our home video tape of Rumsfeld (on Russert this morning) several times today.
A lighthearted change of pace.

If you wait for the 6pm news, then you will not have your time wasted. Take a rest from the media and get your head on straight. Then Thank God that you aren't out there with the troops.

Totally agree! Even the maps suck. No detail on topography, scaling in, describing what type of structures of importance are there etc.
Very, very little emphasis on victory, but plenty of mouthing for the enemy. On one station, "civilian casualty" pictures included a father and son that were CRYING. Beam me up!

Actually I love FNC's format. Of course, I do have a life, so I don't sit around watching TV for extended periods of time. I watch FOX for 35-45 minutes each morning and get a very good feel for what is going on, then again for a couple of hours in the evening, which brings me up to date, then at 11PM just before bed to see what is new. Works for me.

But they're not geared to the hardcore cable news junky. They're geared to people who are popping in for half and hour to an hour and then going on the watch something else. Also there's the limited amount of information available to report in the first place. They don't get to turn the network off just because there's no new information the still have to fill the airwaves with noise and pictures. And since they're going commercialless that makes it even more cruel, instead of having 48 minutes an hour to fill they have to fill the whole 60. If it's getting dull and repetative for you, flip to Discovery Channel or something, there is actually a world outside of Iraq and some interesting things are happening.

On another thread a few days ago someone mentioned the coverage of the war on Univision. I tuned in for about an hour and saw an interesting documentary on how soldiers are trained to handle chemical attacks, the equipment they have, etc. This was followed by a history of biological agents, how they were introduced into the area and how Iraq developed them as weapons. Good background reporting.
Even if you don't speak Spanish you can pick up enough from the video and graphics to get a sense of what they're doing. It's actually quite good journalism.
To: Recovering_Democrat
FOX is doing as good a job covering the war as anyone else. They own SKY NEWS so Fox may be new but they own half of England News. Also Fox is pro American everyone else is DIRT><><><
