NYC Supports the Troops, the U.S.A. and President Bush - 3/23/03
Posted on 03/23/2003 12:56:52 PM PST by NYC GOP Chick
We got to Times Square shortly before noon, and there were well over 1000 patriotic people there! We started out up front, but my dad was uncomfortable and we kept going back and back and back and back... Therefore the only speaker photos I have are of the lady from the Christian Coalition and a couple of FReepers.
By the time we left, there were at *least* close to 3000 flag-waving, "USA! USA! USA!"-chanting patriots squeezed into the area near the ticker tape in Times Square.
I didn't see any other threads on this, so I apologize if this is a duplicate.

Nope. The NYPD and the NYFD both got 3 cheers many times over.

CBS radio in NYC just covered it with live quotes from people at the rally!

Alright! That sounds more like the NYC I fell in love with after 9/11. We had slide shows on a giant screen at the Glenn Beck Rally for America in Auburn on 3/22/03. They had a "Thank You" slide for FDNY, and then other first responders, after photos of the WTC before and "during" 9/11.

I came about 30 mins late - and my heart was lifted when I could hear the roars and chants of the crowd from two blocks away when I came out of the subway.
The rally unquestionably broke 1000 people, probably about 1000 were within the rails with a couple hundred around the sides of them, many people who had been walking by but stopped to cheer for a little bit. The turnover of the side people was more frequent, so I think an estimate of 2000 for the day is not overshooting.
I was about halfway back, near someone's car (whose car was that)? I couldn't hear much since all the speaker had was a bullhorn, but every time a cheer or song started up we did our best. As a musician I can sing well and so I did!
Only one problem - couldn't see any FreeRepublic.com signs so I didn't try to meet anyone from the board. At the end I noticed a sign with the URL way, way in the front, but I had to run to work.
Hats off to firebrand, cacique etc. for organizing a rally that turned them out. I hope you all are somewhere right now celebrating the event.

Addendum - while I was writing the posts some posters estimated more people than I said - keep in mind I left at 1:40 for my job which left much time for the rally to grow. Cheers!

Yep I woke up at twelve. I didn't have enough train money anyway to make it. It just occured to me that I could have asked any Long Island Freepers for a ride. Duh! Next time I will plan accordingly. It looked like a good rally too!

Good photos! I don't know whether this is the "official" thread list or what, but it's gotta start somewhere.
I did get pics of most of the speakers(though, I'm waiting on the pics to be burned to cd as the memory stick was not mine). Fantastic support for Bush, our troops, Blair and Operation Enduring Freedom. I was able to bring a coalition of the willing to support Freedom.
How many of you noticed infiltrators? I've got one on photo with a camera(non-digital type) who was quietly launching poisonous darts to anyone who would listen.
The police were happy to see us. They were friendly, helpful, peaceful(not feeling unease in our presence) and were given sound chants at the end of the rally!
